Better on a Scooter... Could you imagine that a 'downgrade' from a budget airline, Scoot, to Singapore Airlines is possible? Well it is! Possibly the one saving grace of flying on Scoot is that they fly the 787 Dreamliner. Well for all of April, PER-SIA, they're not. They are 'chartering' SQ A330s for this service "Due to tighter aircraft utilization across our network"- i.e. not selling enough seats on this sector? You might think hooray for that, SQ vs. Scoot but no. Here's the downgrade:
"Pre-purchased ancillary items such as selected seats, Snooze Kit, WiFi and BoardMeFirst, will be removed from your booking, as those items and other toiletries, i.e. toothbrush, toothpaste, shaver, comb, etc., will not be available on the chartered flight. Considering the flight time, you may bring your own food/ snacks to consume on board. Water will be available throughout the flight, however we regret that alcoholic drinks will not be served". There is no suggestion that there will be ANY meal service that can be purchased on board.
I took this flight principally because of the convenience of its schedule with time being very tight and a meeting to attend to early the subsequent morning. I therefore booked exit row seats for my business partner and I in the hope that we might be able to get 'some' sleep during the flight. A call to Scoot advises that they have no idea of the SQ seating plan on the flight and there's nothing they can do. It's the 'budget' version of Scoot, better to stick to the 'real' version of SQ!
