Double standards

It seems to me that double standards are running amok throughout the AFF.

If you stand up and speak out against the grain, you are silenced immediately, I have not sworn, personally attacked anyone, or tried to use this facility for financial gain.

What I have done is express unpopular opinions but backed them up with a lot of experience.

But it seems as though I must be silenced by faceless people without explanation.

Such a shame to see AFF go this way.

Actually you haven't backed up your claim at all. you've suggested what you think but it's not always fact.

all my my posts are my opinion, backed up by me experience, even if you disagree with everyone of my opinions, do I not have the right to express them?

And as many of us here have backed up our opinion with our own experience too.

I know the thread you are referring to, and it seems you are the lone voice, everyone disagrees with you.

but a lone voice still has the right to be heard.

You have the right to your opinion as does everyone on this board.

What you don't have the right to do IMHO is to create threads like this, basically saying that many posters on here...many with thousands of posts, who know the ins and outs of the FF system better than the airlines do themselves...and basically insinuate that they don't know what they're talking about.

What your underlying message is saying, even if you haven't sworn, abused etc etc is that you think you're above everyone else, that the airline should be bowing down to you and your status is higher than anyone else's and only your opinion matters.

AFF is not posters against posters. It is a community designed to assist and help with information. With your limited posts, you are trying to cause controversy which I somehow think you enjoy.

having just read the other thread, i'm still shaking my head.. Feper, you havent helped your cause, because i think you are coming across as a true DYKWIA, rather than it said in jest.

My opinions are fully based around the fact that IKWIA and I also know my value to an airline, I state opinions on what I expect as a valued customer, if more of us did it, the message may get through

More than happy to hear other experiences. I think the problem starts when those other experiences can't accept evidence, in black and white, or the 1000s of experiences of other people that are diametrically opposed to the one, single experience.

But I agree there are double standards; double standards in assuming that one experience outweighs the experiences of others, not to mention the cold hard facts.

[wishing I had a video of the greeting and offer of a newspaper that this lessor platinum received this morning]

I don't think you are a DYKWIA I think you are trying to make yourself out to be a bigger person that you are.

You make statements that are just trying to spark argument in the Forum.

I don't believe that you are P1 at all.

Let's be very clear.

There is absolutely nothing anyone can do to anyone else on this forum to deprive anyone else of a right to an opinion except: (a) a suspension or expulsion from AFF, or (b) death. So no one is attempting to deprive you of an opinion for the sake of depriving you of an opinion, otherwise as you call it, "silencing".

Has it occurred to you (or anyone else) that the right to an opinion also entails with it a right for everyone else to a response (also known as 'their opinion')? Just as someone may not like your opinion, you may not like the response. Voicing something which is naturally "unpopular" is even more so, but them is the breaks.

I think many here are more satisfied with an opinion which is backed up by facts and/or experience. There is a clear difference between both of those; no one has a right to make up their own facts. Opinions not backed up generally don't go down well (and I'd like to think that's not just an AFF thing - that's a common society thing).

Well maybe not personally, but you have reserved strong words about groups of people.

In conclusion, please keep posting, but understand that a well composed argument, no matter what it says, will always go better with other people.

This is a predominantly visual based communication. Use the emoticons (like :) :D ;)) etc. to help convey your words, because there's no face to face interactions here.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Value to an airline? LOL
If you OWNED the company you work for, made the travel decisions, pay the money yourself and negotiate with the heads of the airlines, then perhaps you can justify that.
As you claim to be VA totally unearned, that to me is NO value to the that airline whatsever.

And there are plenty of P1's and CL members on this board...who are actually someone (not to mention plenty of other's who may not have high status, but certainly have pull)..but don't need to flash their status or big note themselves to make their ego's feel better to sleep at night.

Yes, true, but please in a more kind, understanding, & considerate & thoughtful way..with harmony ;)

If there was a facepalm button and you received SC everytime someone clicked it, you would definitely reach P1 status without even flying.

I understand wanting to fit into a community, and AFF is a great community, full of many differing points of view and great discussions, it's a great community to want to be a part of. That said, to be a part of the community you can't just constantly attack everyone else's viewpoint.

If you want a voice, to claim you know what's going on and who should get what privileges in a FF program, maybe what you're really after is a blog.

If you want to discuss things, have an open mind and be a part of the community, then you're in the right place but you've got the wrong attitude.

I'd love to know what happened to woxlee, his posts were nice, he was a part of the community, he did well to fit in. Feper on the other hand is just looking to stir the pot, his opinions are expressed in such a way that he couldn't possibly want to be a part of the community, but just attack it and grind it into the ground. What changed, other than the username?

Precise context Sam..
Sure hope Feber can read & absorb this.

There is a percentage of people who express their opinions, and when faced with other posters who do not agree, then claim they are being attacked/silenced/whatever.

If you are certain of your opinion, then you should try to understand why others disagree. I am not afraid to say something that I know ¨the majority¨ will not agree with, but when I read their posts, even though I may not agree with them, I try to understand why they differ. Sometimes I have realised that I was full of sh.t in my initial beliefs, and thus am able to learn and change. Other times I stick to my beliefss no matter how much opposition.

But a forum where everyone agreed on everything would be pretty bland and pointless.
