Double SCs for trans-Tasman book 10-15 May

I decided to finally use my Points Club benefits by booking a one way award ticket from MEL to BNE, via CHC, SYD and AKL of course.

If you have same-day transits, remember the ones to & from international flights are all landside these days.

MattG, you're a legend.

Edit: It seems that I may have missed the boat. All return flights from OOL-CHC are currently $1752.

This may be OT - But, your thought on bang for buck on points upgrade bidding? My thought is if I get a valid DSC PNR in July, I can always change the date and upgrade to business class later.

The sale is/was only for OOL-AKL. Christchurch wouldn't work.

Upgrading with points is generally reasonable value, although not guaranteed to be successful for international flights. Of course you'd only get economy status credits, albeit double.

Do you get the 5,000 points on an unlimited number of bookings, I wonder? And is it per flight, or per round-trip booking?

I asked Qantas about this on social media last Monday. I finally got a reply today - after the promo has already finished, which is not really helpful! But I'll post the reply here anyway in case it's useful to someone:

In regards to your query, the bonus points would have applied for each frequent flyer member per booking, not per flight. The bonus status credit from flying would have applied per flight.

Not sure what you mean. Can you please elaborate?
Kiwi Flyer is reminding us there are no airside transfers between terminals at SYD. IIRC this service *may* have restarted for international arrivals from NZ.

FWIW it hadn't started yet as of 3 days ago, and I haven't heard any announcements since then.

Booked to Auckland for Sept and SWMBO’s birthday, then looked at car rental prices, Yikes!
It's a common problem for any attractive travel destination at the moment, including in Australia too - I heard some eyewatering numbers for cars in Tassie and Cairns

That's if you can even get a car in Tassie. I was planning a trip to Tassie at Christmas, but due to their being literally 0 cars in all the rental agencies, I had to reconsider my trip.

Sorry to hear it @Bolt. We also had to change plans.
And welcome to posting on AFF. Some very helpful and knowledgeable people on here.

has anyone received the 5k points after booking? if so how long did you wait? thanks!

I've received mine - I don't fly for weeks.

I went back to the email with the promotion and noted the language: "5,000 bonus points when you book, double Status Credits when you fly.*" It's abundantly clear (in hindsight) that you needed to book to get the points, not actually fly. If I'd picked up on that earlier ...

I've received 5,000 bonus points times two. This isn't the number of flights booked under the promo.

I don't think anyone really knows for sure yet. The T&Cs don't say either way, but I don't see any reason you wouldn't get DSC. Not sure about the bonus though - again, the T&Cs are really vague.

Either way, I'll find out next week and report back to this thread.

I don't agree.

Although the DSC may post, the T&C indicate the promo isn't eligible for DSC.

I flew last week and can confirm I have now received both DSCs (for the trans-Tasman flight only) and 5,000 bonus points.
