Hi Matt, following on our Points Club Seminar, is it worth booking a classic reward to NZ during this promo and still get the DSC? Bonus?

Unlike the previous DSC, it appears classic rewards are not eligible for DSC this time.

I don't think anyone really knows for sure yet. The T&Cs don't say either way, but I don't see any reason you wouldn't get DSC. Not sure about the bonus though - again, the T&Cs are really vague.

Either way, I'll find out next week and report back to this thread.

I don't agree.

Although the DSC may post, the T&C indicate the promo isn't eligible for DSC.

An Eligible Flight for the purpose of this promotion means a Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number on your ticket between Australia and New Zealand where Qantas Points and Status Credits are normally earned.

I don't wish to get in an argument, but I would suggest that the domestic DSC promotion had similar wording and DSCs have posted for that (for Points Club members, who do normally earn status credits on award bookings).

I could be wrong. We'll find out next week.

My point was that (I think) the T&C have been changed. The previous T&C said where SC are normally earned. This time it says points and SC. Is this a deliberate change to exclude classic rewards? We'll see!

I suspect it says that because this promotion also comes with 5,000 bonus points - the previous DSC promos only had bonus SCs. But yes, we shall see!

Status credits "are normally earned" on classic flight rewards for Points Club members. I agree with Mattg: There's nothing explicit in the T&Cs that exclude DSCs on classic flight rewards.

Thanks guys for all your feedback. It would seem in normal cases, points club members earns status credits on classic rewards including DSC being offered at the time (tip from Matt which he as evidence of members receiving DSC). I will await Matt's good work next week as he may have some insight. In the meantime, I may try my luck before the cut-off of 15th making a place holder reward booking which has the flexibility of being cancelled anytime at no cost. Happy days..

If they did want to exclude classic rewards with points club, they would have written that explicitly.

So i am looking at Qantas for
SYD-AKL (J) QF metal stop
AKL - ZQN (Y) AirNZ codeshare - stop
ZQN-AKL - (Y) AirNZ codeshare -stop
AKL-SYD (J) QF metal

when i price them out separately on the Qantas and Air NZ websites they are QF metal $1659 and Air Nz codeshare $259 so $1918

but when i try to book it all as one on the QF website i am being priced at $2737

Is this normal?

Yes normal - codeshare will be booking into a higher fare class than you can get booking separately.

I booked a trip for February which is when my new flying year begins. I was given gold status until the end of January 2023 due to the Qantas status challenge.

It should earn 460 status credits which gives me eleven months to earn 140 status credits to retain gold until the end of January 2024. Should be easy.

Curious. What routing gives 460 (230 single )?

Was originally planning to take business, but the $1059 return business class flights from earlier in the week have been replaced with flights around $1500 return. I'm looking from BNE to any NZ stop, particularly CHC sometime in mid September.

Was thinking to book an economy class return ticket and then bid for the upgrade with points. Thoughts on bang for buck? Thoughts on whether that would be eligible for Business class SC earn rate?

There aren't currently any sale fares ex BNE to New Zealand. CHC is the NZ cheapest destination of the four served by Qantas.

If you don't mind flying from OOL, I'm seeing OOL-AKL for $1,060 return in business class on some dates.

MattG, you're a legend.

Edit: It seems that I may have missed the boat. All return flights from OOL-CHC are currently $1752.

This may be OT - But, your thought on bang for buck on points upgrade bidding? My thought is if I get a valid DSC PNR in July, I can always change the date and upgrade to business class later.

I decided to finally use my Points Club benefits by booking a one way award ticket from MEL to BNE, via CHC, SYD and AKL of course.
