Slightly OT, have Qantas quietly improved the domestic upgrade experience as well? There is a reference to domestic upgrade experience in 2012 on the QF website....

I booked a red e-deal ticket to Perth in August last night, i requested an upgrade on both legs (A332) and I received instant confirmation to both legs immediately.

Has it been always this easy and confirmation provided 2+ months before departure?

I normally don't request a domestic upgrade online as most of my flights are SYD-MEL and I upgrade on departure if required.

MOD's - please feel free to move this to an appropriate thread - i couldn't find a thread on Domestic Upgrades - Improved Experience.

Yes - that's how it has worked for many years. If the upgrade class (U) is available at the time of request, then it is confirmed immediately.

With the advertised new process (yet) to be implemented, such request may be waitlisted if not confirmable at the time of request.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

There may be some subtle changes going on. My last couple of ODU's were not endorsed "Catering not assured"

Flew Brisbane- Melbourne today and put in an upgrade about 4 months ago...Not really fussed about getting the upgrade but it would have been nice...Checked this morning to find that the upgrade request had been declined...As I say not really fussed BUT when the doors closed saw that two business seats were occupied by staff....Guess staff have preference over an ordinary WP !!!

If positioning staff are required for operational reasons then yes, otherwise an ex-MEL service may not be able to operate?

I remember in the "Ask the pilot" thread, jb747 said that if he had to position to LHR to fly a plane back to Australia then most of the time he would go in F and more importantly in preference over any pax seeking an upgrade. It wouldn't make sense for QF to gain the measly points revenue (in the grand scheme of things) if it meant a service had to be delayed or cancelled.

I've just logged on, see my upgrade request for my BNE-DRW this morning has been declined... yet if you look for a flight online, there are business seats available - and doesn't even have the "HURRY, less than 5 seats left" warning - so there are obviously empty seats!
WTF?!
Trying to call them... good luck with that at 6am... been on hold for >20 minutes...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

FINALLY got through after 40 minutes on hold... they upgraded me. So perhaps better to call now - online system obviously gone downhill??

What status are you with QF? They might have been holding some to operationally upgrade higher status travellers or expect that higher status pax might try to upgrade at the airport.

Revenue seats for sale don't always mean upgrade seats available...

Very true.

And unless you are applying for an upgrade in the lounge just because there are seats available in business does not mean there is award inventory.

Slightly off topic but I am watching a couple of Platinum International upgrade requests Y-J and we are at T-46.5 and there is no movement. There is plenty of availability so I wonder if the whole upgrade system is down?
