Do AA domestic first class tickets really have no included checked luggage?
Planning a trip from SFO to LAS via LAX and unless i want to pay an extra $4K it looks cheaper to have this segment be on its own. Its crazy that to include these 2 flights worth $400 that to get it with an international ticket its $4K more.

Checked baggage policy − Baggage − American Airlines
This suggests that from the first bag you need to pay. However American Reduces Free Baggage Allowance For First Class Passengers - One Mile at a Time suggests that when the policy changed last year US Domestic First still got 2 bags free. Is that outdated?

As OWE i see that I have 3 bags still but im also travelling with my mother and brother with NB status who tend to over pack so its cutting it a little close to the wire for me.

If you can book the three of you on one itinerary for the domestic flights - everyone will get your luggage allowance.

I found this out when travel 2 years ago with my other half who was OWE and I was OWS.
I couldn't believe it.

If we are ever travelling as extended family with 2 sets of parents, we will be booking AA or BA economy on for 6 pax on 1 PNR due to the luggage rules granting the OWE luggage allowance to all. It will not be fun, but the luggage allowance is very generous.

Elite status benefits − AAdvantage program − American Airlines

Checked bag fee waived
The checked bag fees will be waived for all elite members and guests traveling on the same reservation (excluding group reservations) for travel in the Main Cabin on flights marketed and operated by American Airlines or marketed by American or American Eagle. The number of waived bag fees depends on your elite status.

Oversize or overweight bags may incur additional fees.

Ok. So basically I was wrong about thinking that it includes luggage but with everyone on one pnr we should be good for luggage allowance. Which if i understand correctly is 3x32kg per person if in Domestic First with OWE status.

Thanks for the help clarifying.

It is a bit confusing... but I think the 2 x free bags is still there, just with the switch to 'business class' fares instead of 'first' for 2-class domestic flights the free bag allowance shows as business class:

1st and 2nd checked bags are complimentary for:
  • AAdvantage® Platinum Pro
  • AAdvantage® Platinum
  • oneworld® Sapphire members
  • Alaska Airlines MVP Gold^
  • Confirmed Business Class customers*
