Hey all,

Just wanted all your opinion on whether I should do a 110 SC run to get to platinum before my trip in the US 2 months away?

Currently QF gold and have 5 months left to make platinum.

I certainly would do it. Would be worth it in my eyes.

Yeh thats what I think, anyone have any good reccomendations for 110SC runs ex MEL???

2 options:

1. MEL-x/SYD-AYQ JASA for 72k points + $197.74 cash return. You would earn 240 SC.
2. MEL-x/SYD-AYQ JASA for 36k points + $98.87 one way, and a AYQ-x/SYD-MEL red e-deal Y fare for $284 cash (buy a gift voucher to avoid the CC fee). You would earn 150 SC.

Option 2 would be cheaper as you don't quite need the 240 SC, assuming you value your points at 1.5c per point like a few people here do.

Keep in mind that a WP over a SG would only earn 3962 extra points on a return MEL-LAX itinerary. As a SG you have access to the Admirals Clubs anyway. You would only be missing out on the MEL F lounge and the sparsely located Flagship lounges which are nothing noteworthy. Therefore that is a lot of cash and points to burn...

It is a tricky one as that is a reasonable amount of cash and points to burn. Are you flying in Biz to the US? Are you going to make WP anyway?

I would be thinking MEL-SYD-OOL as a JASA check out the new Gold Coast lounge and then return on a Qantas flexi saver for $400.00

40+40+20+20 120SCs.

If you are traveling by yourself maybe not worth while but if you are traveling with someone else then maybe it is worthwhile for the F lounge.

MEL-SYD-OOL would be 24k points + $129 cash + $220 for a one way flexi saver to come back so yes this would be a better option.

Not sure I'd value a F lounge visit to be worth 24k points + $3xx though!

However the 25% extra points to the US and back might start to help to recoup the points outlay.

Quite often for the BNE-ites the F lounge is worth a ~$100 BNE-SYD, ~$50 SYD-MEL price match & ~$150 MEL-BNE +/- hotel costs if staying over, that's about ~$300.
