DOH-PER Equipment Change

Have another go with QF ask them to see if QR will release a seat (QF will have to “manually” request from QR no just look at screen of available seats).
Given how useless alot of the SA agents are I don't fancy my luck. I tried already with 2 agents, and it took 10 minutes to attempt to explain the situation and they still couldn't understand at the end. I just gave up when they kept putting me on hold to "look for classic rewards seats on those dates" even though I told them there are none there and they will have to manually request.

Once I asked them to manually request, the agents just said since they are not Qantas flights they cannot make room for me on another flight... lol

I had a look for myself to see if there are any paid QR bizz tickets. The only available ones are via Brisbane (all SYD-DOH direct paid tickets sold out on the A380 on that date 11 June 22). I honestly can't be bothered to spend working days on the phone to most likely end with the same outcome. It's just a lesson learned to never book QR and expect qsuite at the time of flight even if the ticket says so.

Same thing happened to me but with a better outcome. Booked to fly on Qsuite on 27th July and then noticed by chance that the seats had changed. Checked through the app and plane was swapped from A350 to 777 with old business class layout. No email to tell me! By going through the booking process on their website I found that there was a 777 flight with Qsuites the next day (28th). Spent over an hour in the queue to customer service & when I got through has no problem moving it. It looks like the Qsuite version comes & goes on this route?

Given what happened here
QANTAS cancelled our QR Awards

I wouldn’t be remotely confident in calling QF and asking for a switch.
The OP might end up having to swim to DOH instead.

Which customer service did you get through to? Was yours a Qantas issued ticket or Qatar? Was it paid or a classic reward?

It was a paid ticket through Qatar so that will have made it easier although I was disappointed they didn’t contact me to let me know.

Maybe I will get lucky and they will equipment swap at last minute between non-qsuite and qsuite 777.... who knows :)

I'm in the same situation flying out on 17 June from Perth with classic reward. Called QR and they passed me to Qantas. Actually got through in about 30 minutes but allas no success.

Fingers crossed the Qsuite magically reappears. If i paid full $$$ I would be mad, but since classic rewards will still be good.

Can I ask how you know the plane has been switched? Newbie here. I've been considering booking Qatar for flights to Europe in September (out of Perth) but as I'll be paying full price I really want to make sure I get the Q suite experience to make it worthwhile. The website has the little Q next to the flight at the moment (a 777-300) but how frequently are planes switched?

Just check the seat map. If it's like the one I have shown at the start of the thread - i.e 2-2-2 config instead of qsuite 1-2-1 (alternating back and front), then it is old bizz. If it currently has Q next to it, it will be q suite, however something I'll also add that I mentioned:

If you're paying full price ticket, Qatar has a policy that if you are originally booked into q-suite and are equipment swapped/aircraft changed to non q-suite then they will offer 1 free transfer onto a q-suite product. The only issue you'll encounter with this is the fact that there's only 1 flight out of Perth to Doha as of present so this might mean transferring to the previous or next days flight which may not be possible depending on your travel plans..

Ok, this makes me feel a bit better, I can probably be flexible a day either side if need be. I guess the only problem would be if they stop using Q suite planes altogether on the Perth route! But surely not given it's a long-haul sector on what I assume (based on the price of the ticket!) to be a very profitable market.

I'm sorry you don't have this option adian059, I will make sure to book through Qatar so I don't have the same issues you had with Qantas!
