It's relatively well-known on AFF that Qantas offers a way to reinstate expired frequent flyer points. If your Qantas points expire, you can contact Qantas and they may offer a "challenge" to reinstate your points balance if you earn a minimum number of points within the designated challenge period.

I was wondering, does Virgin Australia offer something similar? Has anyone had experience with expired Velocity points?

It's definitely 24 months of inactivity. https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/member-support/terms-conditions
10.9.1 A Member's Points will expire the later of:
(a) 36 months after the date of last Account Activity, where last Account Activity occurs before 1 June 2016; or
(b) 24 months after the date of last Account Activity, where last Account Activity occurs on or after 1 June 2016.
Also from the Velocity T&Cs and to answer Mattg's question:
10.9.4 Points cannot be re-credited once they have expired.
However, I would note that QFF has a similar clause in their T&Cs as well:
9.2.4 Qantas Points cannot be re-credited once they have expired.

So perhaps there's also some undocumented loophole with Velocity that's lurking in the background as well...

That is precisely my question :)

And yes, Velocity points definitely expire if you don't have any account activity for 24 months.

Velocity points don't expire.
This isn't correct and it's important that this misinformation is corrected.

Currently, points expire 24 months after no account activity:

Nope, Velocity Points have always expired after specified period of inactivity. Until about 2.5 years ago Points would be expired from an account that had shown no earn or burn for 36 months. Then it got changed to expiry after 24 months of inactivity. But ANY Earn, Burn or Buy activity to keeps all point in the account valid.

Well it looks like nobody has found a way to (or had a need to) restore expired Velocity points.

Perhaps they just don't have a process like Qantas does.
