Hi everyone, long time stalker, first time poster. I am looking at using some QFF points for a birthday trip to Asia with my partner. At the moment, there are two F seats available on either BA16 (Syd-Sin) or QF29 (Mel-Hkg) on the date that I would like to fly out.

I've never flown F before and I am still deciding about which one to take. To assist in making this decision I was hoping someone would be able to tell me if the 8 course tasting menu is offered on QF29.

If anyone would like to offer their thoughts/opinions and/or provide some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please accept my apologies if this question has been asked and answered recently - happy just to be directed to the right thread.

Thanks,

bbewg

Never in my time. I have been on 29 in F five times this year and no luck. In fact I have been on 32, 31, 9 & 10 this year and never been offered. Only had it into LAX on 93/94.

Nevertheless it is a great flight 29. You get looked after by great crew and a good sleep.

Cheers

QF31 and QF9 have the tasting menu, so not sure why you were not offered it (unless only ex SIN)

The tasting menu is only offered ex Australia so you would never get it on the QF32 or QF10.

QF29 however doesn't have it due to the late departure of the flight.

Your spot on, I always leave on 29 out of melbourne. Often take 9 & 31 ex SIN.

Thanks for the clarification.

On QF1 (4A) Syd/Bkk this Sunday. Would be nice to engage the QF F Degustation experience. :D

To be very honest....i would save the $$$ or points and just fly J-class as most people tend to just have a little supper and sleep....the 744 F product is quite dated now

The doona and sheepskin is great but....i think you can buy a few heads of sheep to keep at home for the price difference....but yes, the crew is very senior and very professional. They will truly look after you.

Just my 20c worth.

Enjoy the flight!!

My one and only international F experience was on QF29 -- I concur, the crew in F are truly exceptional. I have no idea whether it's route specific or 747 specific, but I had a great flight either way.

We have a squillion FF points and wanted to try the F experience once so the points difference to J is not really an issue. Plus its a 10th wedding anniversary trip and I get brownie points for organising F. We're coming back J.

I'm doing this for several reasons:

1) I have the points, I mean ~240k points (~120k Syd/Bkk and ~120k Sin/Syd) is not that many points and I can fund the A$3.5k for the non QF flights.

2) I get to sample F with 5 major carriers and their F Lounges, especially the Thai F Lounge in Bkk, which I'm really looking forward to.

3) I get to compare Emirates (including the shower at 38,000 feet and the bar) and QF F on the 388 versus QF F on the 744.

Would I do this all the time? No. But this is too good an experience to pass up and to me is well worth the money.

Someone could actually package this. ~240k points and ~A$3.5k to fly F on 6 different operators/metals combinations and experience the associated F lounges. Plus say 3 days each in Bkk, Hkg and Sin to do a bit of shopping and hotel sampling to boot.

Not a bad way to spend 10 days while we await for what AJ will deliver 24 Aug and all that follows. I do trust the AFF servers can handle the load.

Hi again,

thank you for your responses and advice. One of the reasons for flying F was to laze around in and enjoy the Flounge, as I've never been in it before, and may never get the opportunity again!? I might consider BA16 if new F is a high probability.

Another (dumb newbie) question but was also considering returning on CX J flight from Taipei to Melbourne. There is an option to take a flight that stops in Adelaide before heading to Melbourne. Does this Adl-Mel portion earn separate and additional SCs and miles, or is it simply considered in the overall Hkg-Mel flight? Hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks again,

If it's the one flight number (HKG-xADL-MEL) then it would credit as HKG-MEL. IF you stopped over in ADL and did HGK-oADL-MEL with HKG-ADL and ADL-MEL on different dates, then it would credit as HKG-ADL and ADL-MEL separately.

If it has a different flight number it counts as a separate flight for FF points and SC earn.

We are coming back (on J) from HKG to MEL via PER using flights with different flight numbers for this exact reason:

HKG-MEL J class is 120SC

but

HKG-PER-MEL in J is 200SC

First 8 course degustation menu with wines was very enjoyable on QF1 Syd/Bkk, 21 Aug 2011.
