Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association secretary Steve Purvinas said since Qantas sent engineering and safety checks to countries such as Singapore, the national carrier's once near-perfect safety record had suffered.
And he said the German-based Lufthansa engineers who serviced the A380 Airbus involved in yesterday's incident did not even have the same aircraft in their own fleet.

Singapore Airlines followed suit and grounded its Airbus A380s early this morning but German carrier Lufthansa, Emirates and Air France said they had no plans to ground their A380 fleets.

So news does Lufthansa fly A380 or not?

The media love that guy from the Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association. Anything bad, they always seem to go to him with quotes (or he goes to them). I can't believe the media take him seriously anymore.

I suspect that he is in frequent contact with the media, and has them on speed dial to give his important views.

One day soon he'll be caught out (like he has been caught out before) for talking utter rubbish. Hey Steve - how are those staples going? ;) ;) ;)

Oh, and also don't forget, that only a small portion of maint is actually sent overseas ... does 5% sound right Steve?????

No surprises in this story, it's just the Union banging the drum for its members.

Suggesting that Lufthansa Tecknik is a cut-price operator that puts lives at risk is entirely ludicrous and utterly moronic. Makes nice 10-second sound bites for the braying tabloid media pack, though.

Yes, Steve - your motives ARE that transparent. Do us all a favour and STFU.

I saw that this morning; (Hint: search for "Lufthansa Lady Bee")

I must need a coffee but I am not getting this.

I know that LH ran a comp about naming the A380 and it went a but haywire but that's about it.

I believe Lady Bee is the winning name for the LH A380

"Lady Bee" is the name that won the competition, and thus is the name of LH's first A380.

The funny thing is the comments infer that Lufthansa Technik is a third world organisation and have no experience with the A380 and only QF engineers should touch it. The A380 is a new aircraft so all the engineers for the carriers operating it will have the same experience with it. The last 747 engine failure was maintained entirely in Australia and yet this representative had to bring up the same tiresome issue.

And based on comments on some general news websites, they believe the propoganda. It is a real worry - at least regular travellers can see through the spin.

I swear sometimes the members of the union must shake thier heads at the comments - they annoy the airline and damage its brand, so if that sort of thing continues, it only adds reasons to send maintainence overseas.

Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association secretary Steve Purvinas said the frequency of maintenance incidents on Qantas planes started escalating three or four years ago. ''There's a reason for that. It's because they're focused primarily on how much profit they can deliver their shareholders, not how much quality...''

Who is this guy, never heard of him till this morning. What puts him in a position to start accusing QF of only caring about profits

Heard something very intelligent on Sunrise this morning about the engineering plant in Germany, went a little anlong these lines:

"Germany has some of the best engineers/engineering standards in the world, just look at the cars they produce"

Rings true doesn't it?

While I definitely don't support another sensationalist article trying to put fear into people's heads like this I think what should have been said here is that while Lufthansa do have A380s they use different engines to those on the QF and SQ planes that have all been grounded. That is why not all A380s worldwide are out of service.
I heard something about that in a radio interview but I honestly can't remember who they were interviewing. It may have been a Qantas pilot.

SQ have released their aircraft to fly again.

The interesting thing about News is that their Qantas bashing actually over-rides their hatred of the unions!

If Steve Purvinas knows of any real details of Qantas not servicing planes correctly and safely surely he should immediately report it to CASA. As most service is still done in Australia he should be cautious about throwing stones.

Steve Purvinas also seems to me to be saying that the overseas companies doing the service are at fault for every incident without any proof at all as the investigations would not be completed yet, I think he should be careful they don't take legal action against him.
