Hi, I was speaking to the Qantas consultant on the phone earlier today and he told me that from time to time Qantas releases more FF seats when they aren't selling enough of them. I was wondering if this happens often?

I would suggest whenever the people who run yield management decide that it is better to have a points redemption than an empty seat.

Yep there is a cost to points so if you offer seats in return for a reduction in points it reduces a technical 'liability'

You can be lucky and I have called when there were no classic award flights free and they released one for me.

I fly PER - LHR 3 times a year so may have been the reason but it included an EK leg PER - DXB - PER & QF1 & 2 for DXB - LHR - DXB. :)

Last time I rang QF and asked about releasing an extra seat (HKG-MEL), it became embarrassing as the info was fed into the computer and almost every option opened up.
