Do computers really suck or is it just me.

Having just gone out and purchased a new laptop, I've found myself trying to configure it all afternoon and find where the mongrels have hidden everything. What is it with computer geeks? Why go and move things around just so you can say they've been "updated"?

Not to mention, I bought it so I could do some CAD work whist away and go to load my 2010 ACAD version and it says it won't work on this operating system (or something). Then I go to configure Outlook to my emails and find the "Outlook" is not Outlook at all but something called Outlook.com which appears to be an amalgamation of Outlook Express and Live.............Well I'm annoyed. The programs I wanted the most and no go! I'm thinking of loading my old Outlook 2003 and see if that works. Oh and for some reason the @ button when pressed gives " and vice versa . I think that might be the language settings even though I selected EN AU.

Oh to have XP back again!

(Just sorted the @ and ".........had to set it to EN AU with US keyboard......)

I feel for you swanning_it

My bugbear at the moment is new software and or websites.

The changes to google maps, popups on Tripadvisor.

You just get used to something and they change it.

Sound like a windows 8.1 issue. What was your old operating system? (WinXP rip)

AutoAD is fussy with the hardware/software/operating system. And AutoCAD2010 is old. But my cad skills are limited to opening dwg file and printing. To edit I phone a friend and get mouse/click/keyboard/pull down menu instructions

I had this issue years ago with an upgrade (millennium maybe??) and I had to upgrade the ACAD version. I hate updating as I know where everything is and with ACAD it's bloody expensive! Yes old OP was XP and I liked it.......but then again I liked '98 as well...in fact I liked 3.11 too .

Just annoying!

Maybe I should change the title to "does Microsoft really suck"? Computers themselves have not changed to much recently in reality, Moore's Law may have hit the wall.

Moore's Law is holding up well. Some futurists think that computing power will be so great in 20 to 30 years time when we will reach an event called the singularity, ie computers become self aware.

With my old computers, I don't think they can handle anything more then XP.

XP was pretty good.

I hated Vista until I used Windows 7. I have not yet used Windows 8.

Unfortunately a lot of websites are no longer compatible with XP and will not load. What to do?

No, it's not you - computers (and Windows in particular) really DO suck. Am getting sick and tired of having problems after every Windows update - PC won't start up properly (or at all - seems to get "stuck" and has to be restarted), desktop display goes "weird", programs won't run properly, problems with internet connection - usually at least one, if not more, of these problems EVERY time. PC needs replacing, need another desktop so seriously looking at changing to an iMac.
