DL to VA @ LAX baggage interline and ticketing query

Hi all, I've got a 1:30 pm arrival MSP-LAX and 11:00 pm departure LAX-SYD this Sunday, on different PNRs. Anyone with recent experience here? I''m hoping DL will check my bags through to VA and additionally if VA check-in is strictly 3 hours beforehand or am I going to be able to go airside earlier?

I suppose it might just be a question if they can ticket my LAX-SYD when I'm departing EWR? Then I'm good to lounge, I imagine. Although 7 hours, a run over to In-and-Out has some appeal.

That's basically the situation in getting back airside at LAX.

Note the LAX EK lounge does not open for VA flights until 5:00pm.

I don't have experience with having booked this with different PNRs but experience with Delta/VA integration has been pretty good so far (e.g. DFW-LAX-BNE and DFW-LAX-SYD). I can't imagine why they wouldn't be able to interline your gear the whole way and also issue your boarding passes at your initial departure point.

Wouldn't hurt to have all your docs printed out with you in EWR though..

in-and-out at LAX is great - we took advantage of this (worth doing at least once anyway) using the 'free bus' route (not sure if this still works). Nothing quite as cool as sitting outside in pretty good weather and having a whole bunch of heavies (and a couple of lights..) fly overhead in the landing path..

There is a limit on the time they will hold the bag air side at LAX but I can't remember how long

I've done this on seperate PNRs in the past and had bags checked thru to Aus and BPs issued. However last July , coming back on seperate PNRs, LAS had no idea and even the supervisor in charge didn't know know how to. So we arrived back into LAX and had to checkin there. The VA checkin was open a lot earlier than the 3 hours before the flight, but couldn't access the Emirates lounge until 4 hours beforehand.

For reference it was 9:03am Saturday morning in LAX when this was posted.

VA6 is the only VA flight from LAX with a morning departure (was Sch. 12:10pm in OZ Summer) and it operates on Saturdays only. The EK lounge closes about 11:30am when boarding is called.

Bit of a hassle at EWR checkin, agent hadn’t heard of VA not interline agreement and wanted to charge me excess baggage as well. Sorted it all out in the end but it took some time. The unencumbered walk over to In-and-Out will now be much easier. But as others have mentioned, have your paperwork and website links to baggage allowances ready.

departs @12:10pm. Lounge closed after they called boarding. First time on that different departure, and its my new favourite!

Much friendlier treatment of course from the VA staff at LAX. Emirates lounge admitting VA FFs after 5pm so trekked up to In-and-Out. Great plane watching. Also one block further on is a Kohls. This is a go-to for me, I like their Sonoma label for shirts, USD$25, that’s my work staple. Great chinos for $25 on special too.
