Hi all

I think I might have misinterpreted DJ/VA's status program in terms of the "rolling" 12 month lifetime of SCs. I had assumed that it worked a bit like Hilton used to work - if in a 12 month period you qualified then you got status for 12 months from that date.

So for example I assumed if you hit the relevant SCs on say 12 November 2011 (based on travel between 13 Nov 2010 and 12 Nov 2011) then you were guaranteed status until 12 Nov 2012. I thought then if for example by 21 Jan 2012 your SCs for the twelve months to 21 Jan 2012 were now 800 your renewal date was now 21 Jan 2013?

Is this not how it works?

Until you get to platinum it works like that - your qualification is based on the most recent 12 months rolling. However once you get to platinum it is 12 months from your review date to the next to retain.

What an odd system - for those of us on the status tread mill it is exactly the same as QF.

Actually, all the retains work that way. So if you achieve gold, what matters is the balance of SC's on the retain date 12 months later. The balance of SC's at any intermediary date (unless it causes you to go up to platinum) is irrelevant.

hmmm, I thought if you reached the required retain point, at any stage throughout the year, then, you would retain thatstatus for the following year. ie, i will hit gold retain by mid december, my year ends November 2012 (Dont know why, but when the new system came in I had 15 months on gold). So from what I understood to be the rules, I have reached in excess of 400 SC, in December this year, then, I automatically get gold next year, becasue I have reached the renew level in this membership year. Indeed the Velcoity rewards pages implies that is the case.

The easiest way to think of it is that Velocity has two totally separate counters - one looks at how many SCs you've earnt in the past 12 months, the other looks at how many you've earnt since your last qualification date.

The former counter is what is used to assess you for status upgrades, while the latter is used to assess you for status retentions. Once you get to Partner Platinum, the former counter is somewhat meaningless (seeing as there are no further levels to upgrade to)

OK - that makes things clear - if not actually making much sense ;)

This was one of those "DJ/VA is better than QF" examples a while ago which is a pretty small benefit really.
