I used the new revamped Virgin Australia Mobile Check in Service for the first time this morning for trip to Adelaide tomorrow. So far, I'm impressed.

All I had to do is enter my PNR, and confirm my pre-selected seat, say no to dangerous goods and this was presented to me:

At the same time, I was sent this text message.

I'm impressed, looking forward to trying it out at the gate tomorrow, I'll report back tomorrow if I have any problems.

Is this available only on iPhone?
I am also flying tomorrow and might do it. Can it be done with an iPad?

Not sure, I'm guessing it works on most smartphones.

Works on all flights ex MEL,SYD & BNE.

I too had forgotten about mobile check-in. Last time I attempted, it was an abject failure. Is it still limited to only certain capital to capital routes?

Can be done on any *device* that can access the mobile website AFAIK. (You can then collect BP at self-service check-in) or use the 3d barcode to board the flight if the screen/resolution/capabilities of the phone support it.

Good to see it's back. Hadn't worked for me for a while and caused some issues when running late to a flight and the sms confirmation hadn't arrived.

Lounge staff changed my seat so I didn't get a chance to try out my phone at the gate. :/

In used the mobile checkin a couple of weeks ago from Mel to Bris for the first time. I was expecting issues at the gate however I just handed them my phone and (iPhone) and it worked without any issues. As I was using the premium entry I over heard a lady in the regular queue ( sorry, didn't know what else to call it) say to her traveling partner, " why is he handing in his phone" I thought that was funny!

So you were eventually bumped from J?

Well I was being honest with the lounge staff and asked what would happen, apparently just before boarding they would have reassigned my seat to what's left. In other words, 29B.

I have not tried it on an iPhone, or iPad - but here is the update for a Blackberry Bold 9900.

I too have used it, and am glad to find this thread, as I must state - the app is AWFULLY clumsy.
Why?

Firstly, you have to accept a slew (6+) of application permissions to allow access to https. I can understand one overriding acceptance to 'not ask for HTTPS' but six to seven? And interestingly some ask for permission to access .virginaustralia, others .virginblue - so is the airline still operating across two platforms.
But I digress; the real issues are the clumsiness of the application. Nothing like the Qantas one, which is sleek by comparison - which IMO is a departure from the usual Virgin sophisticated and cutting-edge marketing and presentation.

Secondly, a host of the other features on the landing page of the app simply do not work. Select lounge, baggage, velocity rewards to name but a few and the application simply redirects you to the virgin australia website.

Thirdly, when I got my boarding passes 'printed' and delivered to my phone, I was unable to access them from the BOARDING PASSES section. Instead, I had to select MANAGE BOOKINGS and then navigate through to the QR code to present to the gate staff.

Lastly, it was too damn slow.

PROS:? It was free. That's about the extent of the positives.
So - plenty of room for improvement and further development here Virgin. I look forward to this becoming a reliable tool across a multitude of smartphone platforms.

Unfortunately, No luck for me.

I thought I would give mobile check-in a try for my BNE-SYD flight today.
Every seat on the plane was showing as Occupied, so being unable to select a seat, mobile check-in wouldn't let me proceed.
