We know this one has been asked for before on AFF, so nice to be able to present it, especially on a Friday!

Economy Comfort is a selection of seats in Delta Air Lines’ Economy Class cabins on 2-cabin aircraft that offers extra legroom, more amenities and extra recline on most international and transcontinental flights.

From Tuesday 20th August, Velocity Silver, Gold and Platinum members flying with our partner Delta, will be entitled to a discount when purchasing an Economy Comfort upgrade (charged per person per sector).
If you have booked economy in DL you will be able to purchase an upgrade where available, and can be done via delta.com, through a DL call centre or at a DL airport check-in kiosk.
  • Platinum members and up to 8 companions on the same PNR receive a 50% discount.
  • Silver and Gold members and up to 8 companions on the same PNR receive a 25% discount.

You must ensure your VFF number is in the booking to access the discount, and Velocity Points & Status Credits earn will continue to be based on the originally purchased fare type.

Hopefully this will be of interest to those flying to the US!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It's certainly a step in the right direction, no question there!

However, it is a little disappointing to hear that it's only available at a discount, rather than complimentary. To compare, QF Gold (and above) receive free Main Cabin Extra pre-allocation on AA, with QF Silver/oneworld Ruby flyers also receiving this as a free perk until the end of the year.

While I realise that DL's Economy Comfort offering does also include free alcohol (in addition to priority boarding), most Emerald flyers (and some Sapphire flyers) would already be receiving free drinks on AA. VA's Gold and Platinum flyers would also already receive priority boarding as a published DL benefit.

For Silver flyers, the offer does stand in VA's favour from 2014, when the AA MCE benefits expire for QF's Silver/oneworld Ruby flyers. Priority boarding would still be available on AA from 2014, though.

If anyone's curious to compare:

Good news VFF.

More options and better discounts are always appreciated.

Note that AA Gold (oneworld Ruby) is substantially more difficult to obtain that DL Silver (SkyTeam Elite), since DL gives away medallion qualifying miles like candy. For example, you can earn 30,000 MQMs (25k needed for Silver) from credit card spend without stepping foot on a Delta plane; not true on AA. That's why AA is more generous to AA Golds and equivalent than DL is to DL Silvers and equivalents. Not saying that matters much to QF or VA Silvers, but it explains the reasoning.

Interesting that, with this new deal, VA Golds get treated like DL Silvers on international flights terms of Economy Comfort discounts. Even VA Platinums don't get complimentary economy comfort on domestic flights; DL Gold, Silver, and Diamond, as well as Sky Team Elite Plus, all do.

The joys of not being a member of an airline alliance ;)

True it isn't as good as DL or ST elite, but I would rather the DL lounge access available to VA than what SkyTeam elites are currently offered (or more accurately aren't offered).

TBH I don't think if I'll be taking this offer up - even though I have about 10 DL sectors before the year is out. But I certainly will be appreciating the lounges.

what's the original price? i paid $15 the other day from LAS to LAX, was that discounted? WELL worth it

Depends on the length of the sector.

Silver & Gold is 25% off, Plat is 50% off.

Mrs Nitro and I have LAX-LAS return in late October and I nearly paid the $7.50 USD per person per leg but thought meh might wait until closer to the date. If I can get this for $15 USD total I'd be one happy camper, will give it a try on Tuesday! Not a bad little birthday present :)

Well, I'm glad it's here but considering about three weeks ago I stumped up USD$90 to upgrade to EC LAX-JFK my immediate question is how much did I just get ripped off by?

When I looked last night the prices seemed to be the same as the last weeks, i.e. $7.50 USD per person per leg LAX-LAS-LAX. Maybe only the more expensive legs have been discounted? *shrug*

I already paid for preferred seats for my flights in November as didn't want to pay even more for the economy comfort :(

Flying LAX-JFK on Delta in December. Economy Comfort was $73 AUD per seat before this announcement, and today I checked again and the price is $74 AUD, no discount! So much for VA Platinum recognition, what a farce. btw my Velocity number is recorded in the booking on the Delta website and also says "Platinum Medallion / Elite Plus"

So silly question as I've got a lot of DL coming up and am trying to see if this is worth it to me (am currently leaning heavily in the 'no' camp).

Will getting EC make any difference to point or SC earn from these flights?

OK VA, this whole Delta deal is seriously all over the shop.

Maybe for you. For me, it was USD$89 per pax per seat before this announcement (I paid it on 29 July for my as-yet unflown LAX-JFK). Just off the phone two minutes ago to do the return leg and they charged me USD$49 despite their website clearly stating AUD$49. But for my Red travelling companion, she get's hit with USD$89. Hmmm, back on the phone with DL it seems. I'll report back about whether I manage to get this fixed or not.
