I've got a light digital travel scale. Weighs up to 50 kg using a hook at the end. Neat looking and does the job pretty accurately. Worth keeping it handy for most trips, certainly by flight. Cost under $14

I agree, I've had one of these for a while, though mine clips around the handle instead of having a hook.

In a fit of boredom, I bought the one from QF inflight duty free shopping. Seems to work well and looks pretty. I'm curious how the battery life will be with long periods sitting idle.

I've had mine since June 2011, used it last in December 2012 and the battery is still OK.

Bought one a couple of years ago. Battery still good. But who knows which models we are comparing...

I'm asking myself why it would be sitting idle for long periods? Book a flight and use the darn thing!:)

I bought one from Kathmandu (the store) and I love it, then noticed a cheap Fishing Scale in Kmart might do the job just as well (and no need for batteries).

I had a mechanical scale for a while that was ok but I now have a Korjo digital scale that is great - although it did then cost me $300 for new carry on luggage when it showed me how heavy the Tumi was...
