Does anyone know what the aircraft movements are to Denpasar?

For me I flew PER - DPS and it was on VH-YIF (so a near new aircraft)

On the return from DPS - PER, it didnt appear that after our departure there was any future Virgin Outbound flights for quite a long time .... So when we got bussed to the aircraft standing area, there was VH-YIA, VH-YIB and VH-YID sitting in a row!

Just a found it a bit bizarre they had so many aircraft there and why DPS (a leisure destination) seems to be fed BSI aircraft with business seating.

My personal theory is that they run in a triangle such as MEL > PER > DPS > BNE > PER etc. so the aircraft gets domestic use for the business seating, and probably via BNE for maintenance.

VA offers J class into DPS. So the business seating is getting used on those sectors.

If you're interested in trying to figure out VA aircraft utilisation patterns, check out the VA Jet Tracker:
The VA Source - Virgin Australia Jet Tracker

VH-YIF operated PER-DPS on 6 March, since then it's operated DPS-SYD-DPS-MEL-DPS-PER-DPS-MEL-DPS-ADL-DPS-PER-DPS-SYD-DPS-ADL! So it's been shuttling back and forth from DPS for quite a while. And if you go through the 'route tracker' you'll see that all the DPS routes have seen very heavy rotations of the VH-YIx aircraft all this month.

Perhaps the new build 738s offer performance advantages on the DPS routes? I think there are some payload restrictions on the east coast to DPS routes to stretch the range.

Maybe one of the DJ reps could advise but I'd agree there must be an economic/performance advantage.

One person was in J class on the way there, no-one on the way back.

My apologies Baguss, my reading of your post was that you thought the J seats would not get any use on DPS flights. (Although as you point out, they might be available for sale, but not necessarily utilised!)

The BSI's and VUY, VUZ and a few other -800's are internationally configured with extra safety devices/equipment, like more life rafts etc. The VH-YI* are Internationally configured, the VH-YV* aren't i believe. I may be wrong.

Your welcome, then again i don't know if i am correct or not.

That's more sensible than my theory. Thanks Jack.
I may also be wrong but it would surprise me if that was the case. A different setup is needed for ETOPS but these legs don't require that.

You could be right, lets just wait for the expert to answer this question.
