Just got this today. Has this happened to anyone before?

Happy to take the 2,500 points but booked the Hyatt mainly so I could access a club lounge. Does anyone think it's worth pursuing?

Dear mrsmart,

Warm greetings from Berlin.
Thank you for choosing Grand Hyatt Berlin for your upcoming trip to Berlin. As a Diamond Gold Passport Member you usually receive access to our Grand Club Lounge. In the time period from December 24th, 2015 until January 02nd, 2016 we unfortunately cannot afford this due to limited capacities in our Lounge. According to Gold Passport’s Terms and Conditions we will invite you to enjoy your breakfast in our VOX Restaurant and credit 2,500 Gold Passport Points for each registered guest in the room.

I would like to apologize for potential inconvenience this e-mail may cause and thank you for your understanding.

We look forward to welcoming you soon. Please do let us know at any time, if my team or I can be of any further assistance to you.

Kindly also copy my colleagues (in cc.) to avoid any delay in responding to your request.

With our kind regards,

Well, it is the Gold Passport defined compensation for this event: Hyatt Gold Passport - Membership Levels
2 During periods of high demand access to the Regency Club or Grand Club lounge may not be available; therefore Diamond members will receive 2,500 bonus points per stay plus daily complimentary full breakfast inclusive of one entrée (or standard breakfast buffet), juice and coffee (tax, gratuity and service charges included) for each registered guest in the room, maximum four (4) people.

As noted, it is part of the T&Cs. It's impressive that the property is being proactive in advising members of the compensation. However,, if you've only just received it for your stay in a fortnight, that wouldn't be so great.

That said, I would be very interested as to the reason behind this. The agent notes "limited capacities in our lounge". And the period is Christmas to new year.

It definitely goes by the terms and conditions as said above.. I must say I do however find it funny that hotels only seem to compensate for the breakfasts...I can buy a coffee and pasty for $5 at any cafe around a city, its the drinks and canapés which make lounge access stack up for me..

Well this is interesting! I'm booked at the Hyatt Regency in Hong Kong and I just got this email:

Dear mrmart,

Greetings from Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui!

We are glad to learn about your forthcoming visit on [DATE]. Kindly be informed that Regency Club Lounge is closed for refurbishment from Monday, 4th January to Sunday, 31st January, 2016.

During this period, Reception Counter and Food and Beverages offerings at Regency Club have been relocated and please take note of the alternate arrangement as below :

Regency Club Desk on the Lobby level will operate from 6:30am to 11:30pm

Breakfast Buffet will be served in our Café located on the Lobby level :
Between 6:30am and 10:30am

Complimentary tea, coffee and refreshments will be available in Room #[NUMBER] on [NUMBER]/F from 10am to 5:30pm and 7:30pm to 11:00pm.

Evening coughtails, comprising of a selection of canapés will be available in Room #[NUMBER] on [NUMBER]/F from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Please bear with us for the inconvenience caused during the closure and please contact us if we can be of any assistance. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our hotel soon.

So, rather than paying out 2,500 points per person, they're just going to set up some tea and coffee in an empty guest room (or suite, I presume).

I wouldn't be too worried, Asian hotels tend to do replacement lounges pretty well. I've been at a few while renos are taking place and you basically can't tell that it is an alternate. They can get a bit more crowded at times though,

Not too concerned, just intrigued as I hadn't seen it done before! (but I kind of would've liked the extra points ;))
