Delta Flights MEL to LAX or MEL to SAN around $1100 Depart Late Nov, Return Jan 20

I saw this on OzBargain, apparently Delta flights are cheap:

MEL to LAX $1101 (fly out Nov 22, 27, 29, return Jan 1, 6, 9 or 12)
MEL to SAN $1106 (same dates)

Expedia were also offering these low fares, with the option of an open jaw ticket.

Booked a Virgin Australia return flight MEL-LAX yesterday, leaving August 1, returning September 6 - $1,150! Flight out was via SYD, return flight direct. If I had left the day before on a direct flight, cost would have been $1,081! Flights at that cost available most days before and after, for at least a week or two!
