Asked Virgin if we would be eligible to earn on this flight and was told not sure would depend on the flight, what does that mean? Just booking main cabin, for hubby from LA to Havana and from Havana to LV (While we play at Disneyland for the week lol) so was trying to work out if and what the points earn and SC would be.

Points earn will be via the usual Table on Velocity website. Which of course will depend on fare bucket as always.

Well, first off Delta doesn't fly direct to HAV from LAX so you'll be making a stop. Probably MIA?

For the flights within the USA you'll definitely earn Velocity points according to the earning charts as long as your fare class is eligible, just like normal.

For the MIA-HAV flight, I'm not as sure, HAV has special earning rules, due to US embargo. For example I know Delta Skymiles won't earn on KLM flights to HAV for example. Please report back but at least you'll get the bulk of the trip credited at a minimum.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Call the velocity customer care , they will be able to confirm the status credits info. I called them today for a flight from LAX-SFO return and they were able to give the total SCs that will be credited for that leg.

they actually had no idea....

ok well i can get american airlines $250 cheaper than delta, although delta is comfort plus. worth paying the extra for the sc and points? sucks you have to pay for bags on usa airlines. im fine cause im gold va but hubby is red as he gives me all his points.

What are current rules around flying US to Cuba direct? IIRC you have to be travelling for certain reason from a list of reasons, but I understand this is just a verbal declaration. Although that was 18 months ago. We looked at for my partner’s mother but in the end via YYZ was not really any more expensive and came without any uncertainty.

We are planning on advice from the Cuban Embassy as advised according to them as we are flying on a non-US passport then there is no problem flying to Cuba from the USA

What about back? I was in Cuba a few weeks ago and my reading of the notices on the AA website when I went to book HAV-MIA that if the pax had been in Cuba for tourism, they couldn’t fly direct. I played it safe and went via CUN.
