Hi

Have an upcoming flight SYD-xBNE-HVB.

I can't select a seat to HVB but I read in some threads there is no seat selection until T-24. Should I scramble to get a seat then at OLCI or will my new WP-ness get me auto allocated a good forward window ?

First time on a Dash...

Thanks!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not a fan of the Dash 8 and avoid them wherever possible but sometimes I have to fly on one. The worst was a few years back - BNE to CBR, long, noisy, cold snack. A child came on board for what looked like his first flight and he was quite excited. His mother (?) had obviously worded him up about the joys of flying and I heard the poor little kid ask, "Where do they put the TVs". A bit of a bum flight for him.
When on Dash 8s I usually get allocated a forward aisle which is my preference.

Love the Dash. Seat allocation is available once OLCI opens.

Just remember to bring your own entertainment (I usually sleep).

Your WP should help for a forward window

I've never really found that on the dash-8's. I found my seat could be anywhere on the a/c, about all they take into account is window is isle.

I fly them regularly and being WP I consistently get allocated 1B, or the existential 2B, and have a shadow beside me. Checking in at T-24 guarantees this.

gotta love 'human nature' and how a seating position on a relatively small a/c can 'disrupt' someones life/'self worth'/time management!!! lol

Thanks all for the responses. The consensus seems to be OLCI -24 so that's what I'll do. Yes time management is the issue, Normally I'm too lazy & just rock up to the airport

Living in Canberra they are hard to avoid. I was saying to husband the other day that we can never access anything forward of about row six even though we're both WP. They next day we OLCI for a flight to Sydney and were in row two. Back to row six for the trip back though. It doesn't bother me but I wouldn't want to be further than half way down the plane.

Used to fly the 8's all the time to MQL, now it's the 400's. I find that if I use the mobile website to check in I get allocated anywhere from row 1 to row 8. If I really need to choose then I OLCI via the full website. But be aware once it gets too close to the flight you can no longer choose seats either. Not sure what the cutoff time is though.

3hrs?? Does that ring true?

I think it might be a little further out than that. A few times I've forgotten to OLCI the day before and by the next morning (for a 5pm flight) I can't choose seats. I can still check in on the mobile website and take whatever seat the system spits out for me or just confirm my window/aisle preference. I'm guessing that it might be within T-12. I say that with no proof though.

Data point. Checked in at T-23.5 and was allocated 2D so happy with that. Actually it would be T-26 as my first flight is from SYD
