Are there any hotels in Darwin that charge in 24 hour blocks, specifically to suit the Jetstar 1-2am departures/arrivals? It just seems like poor value for money to pay for a night at a hotel when checking in at 2am and then paying another night when checking out before midnight.

Not that I'm aware of. Do you need a hotel or will a backpacker hostel be sufficient?

They will probably try to charge you double for the privelage of leaving early. My first trip to darwin, stayed a week, checked out at 1am went to the airport and the taxi broke down on the way. Managed to get to checkin 1 minute after closing and they refused me checkin. Went back to the hotel and they said unfortunately they would have to charge me for a full night. FML

Have you tried Rydges Airport Hotel. It's walking distance from the terminal, but also has a 24hr shuttle. That doesn't mean they offer 12 hours blocks, but it reckon it's your best chance. I see people coming and going at all hours. They may have paid for 24 and only used 12 though.

If you're arriving at stupid o-clock you could always book a bed in a share dorm at Melaleuca on Mitchell Backpacker place then the next morning check into a 'proper' hotel and get your moneys worth out of your stay.
