Hi all,

Embarking on my 280K J flight in April and leave BNE at 00:45 to LHR (via HKG). I had a look and the QF lounge is advertised as open from '04:00 til last flight'. Does this mean it's open until 00:15, the CX J passengers troupe out and they close?

Hoping it's doesn't close at 11pm or even earlier!

Many thanks.

I took this flight 9 times last year and the lounge is indeed open

However in saying that - I only used the lounge once. You're much better out in the terminal IMO.
Brisbane intl QF "lounge" is a joke. No wonder theres almost zero intl feeder traffic ex bne

Many thanks - agreed the lounge isn't too special but a comfy-ish chair and a free drink is good enough for me to start my holidays!

Thanks again.

So there is no international traffic ex-BNE because of one sub-standard lounge that the majority of pax would never have been in anyway..... Not one of your more insightful posts there t_t_r.

My point is that good lounges drive traffic as an exit point. Imagine this - you're based in ADL and you're booking a trip to LAX on QF.
Do you choose BNE SYD or MEL as your exit point?

I had a chat with the then QF QLD lounge manager some years ago about this and her argument was there wasn't the premium traffic to justify the expense of a new exxy lounge. I posed the question - premium pax want a premium experience - and the extra hour/2 going via Syd can offer this. Therefore - lounges drive spend.

I think you'll find only a small percentage have lounge access so not sure that is a factor. Schedules are better out of SYD/MEL.

I will try and fly via Sydney (and allow a decent amount of time for the lounge) or arrive just before the Brisbane flight leaves because the lounge is so bad. Most people I know do the same thing.

I was talking to a family friend who flies to Asia and US every other week about his favourite lounges etc and he said he would never waste his time in the Brisbane lounge. He is the only one of his cohort that flies out of Brisbane, the rest go via Sydney (he has 5 kids though and gets an extra half day going direct).

The lack of BNE traffic is most likely due to less flights as BNE has half the population of MEL. If I was in ADL and I have a choice of SYD, MEL, or BNE as an international transit point, I would choose MEL so I don't have to take that dreaded bus.

I'm only talking about premium (J/F) pax. Of course it can come down to how tickets are sold but I'm sure there's an opportunity to understand where people want to go and the underlying data on their history and lead decisions with data. For example - some meta search sites sell consumer search data (qantas.com data would be wildly aligned with their own routes so a poor place to base intel from) to know which city pairs have opportunities.

OP: Make sure you use the lounge. Qantas needs the entrance fees from CX to fund a new lounge!

I've done this flight recently. Used the Q Club. They basically have next to nothing out and available and they're clearly getting ready to close the minute you walk out. No food, empty spirit bottles... Overall very average

Hi hopefulQFF,

Given the comment in this post, it may be prudent to phone the Lounge to ensure you're not disappointed on the available facilities.
