Not until late next year... :(

And while the new seats are better than the current coffin-class ones for flying with a partner, even the paired middle seats have quite a degree of separation between pax, the whole seating arrangement is not really couple-friendly.

Looks like I may have to try CX out when I travel to LHR with MrsH. :)

:) Maybe CX should start advertising them that way, for couples who want to fly together but have a bit of a 'break' from each other during the flight!

OK, thanks guys. You may be onto something as it's quite possible SWMBO and myself will want to strange each other by the time this CX flight comes around. Some space may do us some good.

You can get plenty of space if you sit up the front in J and she takes a seat way back in Y...

Hey Reductionist, there's a story on this on Australian Business Traveller today, it says September 2012 for Melbourne and the other Aussie capital cities apart from Sydney.

Thanks for the heads up.

The new seats look great. I might change my flight to HKG-SYD-MEL instead. Not sure how I'll convince SWMBO that the extra connection will be worth it. :)

I really don't understand this couples unfriendly thing. Setting aside the traditional spousal issues banter - do you really need to be holding hands for the entire flight?

I think the new arrangement looks great - and for the solo traveller (like me) it will be a major improvement. The only downside is the lack of status bonus :(

No, absolutely not.

In all seriousness my specific situation is that SWMBO (typically quite an independent lady) suffers from motion sickness and doesn't enjoy flying that much. She's been kind enough to endure the crazy flight routings I keep choosing, so the least I could do is ensure I'm nearby to help with any discomfort she experiences during the flight IMO.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My folks would much prefer to sit next to each other, simple as that. Doesn't mean they are holding hands or chatting all through the flight but they are very much a couple, very nice to see at their 60s age, and that they would have to lean forward and turn around so much to share any bit of the flight would really not be to their liking compared to conventional side-by-side seating.

Does anyone know what other routes internationally have the new seats? I've got 4-5 CX J flights in the next six months including MEL-HKG, HKG-DME, ORD-HKG, HKG-AKL, and maybe another TBC. I know about the MEL-HKG, if I change to fly via SYD, how can I tell I get the new seats, or are they all new?

Thanks,

Ben

On the seat map the old seats are:

On the new seat map it is:

X XX X

Also CX100 flies daily except (I think) Wednesday exSYD with new seats.

Wish they had the new J seats on the CNS/HKG run, once again flew in J coffins, old planes, worn uncomfortable seats but no choice only direct flight.
I also wish they would stop serving a meal at 1am in the morning on the return flight, very annoying as most wanted to sleep and its wasteful.
