Since I've already re-qualified for WP, I'm thinking of starting to credit to AA but struggling with the logic. If I quote my AA number when booking do I lose my WP shadow and would I get lounge access domestic or international. I hold no status whatsoever with AA

Second question - is there a way to transfer Australian Amex points into AA to gain status. Seems that AA are not listed as an Amex partner in Australia

For QF book with your WP number and switch to your AA number in lounge.Though you will always get lounge access if you have your card with you.
Amex can be transferred to Aadvantage via SPG.however only 330 SPG points per 1000 MR points.but if you transfer from SPG to AA in lots of 20000 you get a 5000 mile bonus.
Diners can transfer to AA direct at 50%,but still better to transfer via SPG because of bonus.
I also get points from Rental cars,Hotels-especially when double dipping at Hilton.
If you go to the States join Aadvantage Dining-only have to register your CC and if the restaurant is with the program the points post automatically.

The only problem now is that very soon it is almost certain that all those extra points will not count to lifetime status as they have.It is believed though that any you have at the time of the change will be grandfathered.
Year to year status is only obtained by BIS miles.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

i.e. 60,700 Amex MR->20,031 SPG->25,031 AAdvantage miles.

So under the current rules I could take 60700 x 4 = 242800 Amex MR points and convert them via SPG to over 100000 AA miles and essentially buy myself the equivalent of WP on AA (Executive Platinum - with the associated 8 system wide upgrade certificates) for 12 months without taking any flight sectors at all??

I wouldn't do that probably because I already have some SPG points and would credit my future sectors to AA.

Does AA status only give you Jan-Dec or is it 12 months from when you acquire status? Do AA give you a bonus year extension if you grovel and plead like QFF do?

No EXP can only be earnt by flying.
The CC miles at the moment do count for Lifetime status not annual status but possibly only going to stay this way a few months longer.
So sorry there is no way that your Amex points will earn you instant status.

If you get status on AA it lasts for the rest of the year that you qualify plus the next year. You lose status if not requalified at the end of Feb the year after.
The Qualification year is Jan-Dec.

To be a little pedantic, you would need 252,500 MR to get 80,025 SPG. Also be wary of the 79,999 limit - you would need to beak it down to more than one transaction. e.g. 2 x 40,000SPG over at least 2 days.
