I'm looking at booking a flight with Etihad direct that is not available on Virgin Australia's website as an option.

I am wondering would it be possible to credit the points & status credits to Velocity but use Etihad Guest miles to upgrade my flight? So effectively having two different frequent flyer programs attached to the same booking.

Cheers.

I have done this before bit it can be a bit messy to get the points as I found they didn't come automatically. Put your etihad FF on the booking first, do the upgrade then change it to your VA.
Make 100% sure the VA number is on the boarding passes when you check-in, I have found that even if I have applied it online it needed to be redone.
You may need to then do a retro to claim the points/status credits so hang onto the boarding passes.
