Went to make a domestic booking tonight PER-BNE return, I thought the credit card surcharge was $7.70 per person per booking. When I selected credit card it is now say $15.40 the breakdown being $14 fee and $1.40 GST. Is this new, or have I always paid $15.40 but never noticed?

Isn't Virgin's surcharge per person per sector?
QF was the $7.70 but now that's down to $7 per person per booking

I booked last night BNE/CNS Return, was only charged the $7.70 Credit Card Fee.... I thought for some issue I was going to be charged twice, but the system liked me...
*shrugs*

Isn't Virgin's surcharge per person per sector?

Haven't booked with Virgin recently? ;)

It's been per person per booking for a decent amount of time now.

As for the cost separation into GST and what not, not sure I ever noticed it, although I do note that Virgin to tend to separate out the GST from their cost breakdowns (e.g. check the taxes etc. next time - one of the components is GST). So they could very well do the same when itemising out the credit card surcharge, but as long as the net result is the same, I guess no big deal......

If you view VA's schedule of fees, they don't actually state that the prices are inclusive of GST (or what not). However, I assume that by federal law, it's not necessary to state it so, but it is necessary to quote the figure inclusive of GST.

My point is that it looks like they are now charging per sector. My return PER-BNE cost me $15.40 in surcharge fees on the one booking.

Just looked at their web site, under Planning-Fees and Charges and it still shows $7.70 per booking. Weird....

I was going to pay by Poli and then changed my mind.
Hit the back button on my browser and got taken to the Virgin payment screen again.
This time I paid by credit card and somehow, no fee was added
cc Points and no surcharge
Double bonus

Did two dummy bookings. Both in J (but it shouldn't matter) for one pax only.

First one is BNE/PER return, both non-stops. Credit card fee was $7.70.

Second one is BNE/PER via MEL and SYD (i.e. 1 stop in either direction). Credit card fee was $15.40!

So shifted gears a bit and tried ABX to MKY. Routing returned was ABX/SYD/BNE/MKY. Dummy booked a return, one pax in Y. Credit card fee - $15.40.

Lastly, tried BNE/PER one-way, but via MEL. Credit card fee - $15.40.

Now I haven't tried closing the browser, clearing cookies etc. to see if it wasn't some weird browser-state-based issue, but this is rather unusual. Should be reported to Virgin ASAP.

Interesting. Just looking at a test booking now, the payment page has a different layout, looks like they've made changes. Either they've doubled the cost of processing a payment (per person per sector) or they've made a glitch in the system which is charing double for return trips.

But previously it's been $7.70 per booking, not per sector.... So not good either way!

Just tried a BNE-SYD-BNE in Y... direct flights on the one PNR, and the fee quoted was the $15.40 for one passenger........ no thanks!!

Fair question rasied here is now also sitting front and centre on the Virgin prime facebook page .......await their reply .........

Hi all, yes, there was a minor issue in the online booking process affecting guests logged into their Velocity account.
It was quickly fixed and is no longer occurring.
Anyone who has been charged an incorrect booking and service fee will be refunded to their original form of payment.
Sorry goes out for those affected.

Temporary glitch? Love to know how these things get through UAT!

Did the $50 thing disappear? Going charged the $7.70 for a $28 balance... Didn't offer any method other than credit card.

Am I going to get charged the $15.40 I didn't get charged?
