Credit card fees reduced for Gold or Plat

Here is a suggestion to the Virgin/Velocity gods.

I am becoming increasingly annoyed with the credit card fees when booking.

How about half price credit card fees, or phone fees for that matter for gold, and FREE phone and credit card fees for platinum???

Thoughts. Comparing the benefits of gold over plat, there is not a huge difference. This would be a real tangible benefit and certainly something the competitors dont offer.

That's good for qantas, but that should probably be down to zero on Qantas. But how do we reduce the DJ C fee to $2.60?

The CC Fee should just be a reimbursement of the merchant fee that the bank charges. It's probably somewhere in the range of 0.8% on each transaction.

The risk of chargeback/fraud must be very very low.

No fees for business class is a good start. I pay $1,000 for BNE-SYD and you whack me with another $10 ??

Take the fees off the flex/biz product and INCREASE it on the cheap fares. You'll need to call it a 'convenience fee' so it's not linked to merchant charges. More people will book flexi tickets as the value perception increases and they won't go to QF because they cost more on the base ticket price. This way the price conscious traveller -AND- the prem pax are both satisfied. This reverse subsidisation model actually serves two purposes while creating more value around the higher margain seats.

If it's purely about revenue - I've got a well thought-out laundry list of integrated benefits that could be streamlined into the checkout process which would have an immediate and direct impact on the bottom line without frustrating users.
Here's one to get you started Virgin: On the checkout process where the credit card is entered, add in a pre-ticked checkbox : "Yes, I want to fast-track my points balance with double points on this flight for an additional $18.50". With a bit more smart-thinking you could customise an additional paid SC offering too..

Plenty more golden beauties where that came from...

Everytime I book I click the POLI button with anticipation, hoping that this will be the time I get to finally achieve inner peace and use POLI.

Yes this is what I do. Just call and say the alternative payment system they have wasn't working. I use a mac at home, so this isn't lying.

I wrote them a lengthy complaint letter about this, but just got a boilerplate reply (some months later) basically just reiterating what I said.
If enough people request refunds, the staff time in processing them will start to weigh the odds. It's a very manual process for them, which obviously wastes a lot of somebody's time.
Ask for a refund, write a complaint letter, and do it every time you book!

The least they could do is offer BPay like Qantas does. The wait is rarely over a day and no fees.
