Crown Plaza POM has new Malaysian owners and it will no longer be a CP as of October 2018 (I think).

Hopefully the new owners will spend some money on a revamp, as the old girl is looking very tired.

It would be a brave company that bought that place given the number of new hotels recently opened or about to open in Port Moresby. To make it anything decent would require more money than the owners are ever likely to recover in the short-medium term. Maybe it will become the "up-market" branch of the Moresby Inn on the other side of the road!

Although I do agree with your summation, for commercial business in town, there are really only three handy places to stay, Crown, Grand Pap and Ela Beach Hotel. With the traffic problems that do plague the place, it is handy to stay where the meetings are (and the commercial sector is growing considerably in the area with the revamp of the old docks). On top of that, the effect of the new Ela Beach precinct (although not my cup of tea, I preferred it the way it used to be) is still to be gauged and APEC Haus is rumoured to be the new Museum/Art/Cultural center, which would certainly place those three hotels at an advantage. The APEC Haus building is huge and has a great deal of potential, post APEC.

I've said it before, but with the amount of investment happening in POM, something big must be happening that someone knows about. I don't think APEC is it.

Changeover happening 2/11/18. Will be called simply Crown Port Moresby with no affiliation with IHG.
