I'd known of Hong Kong (Central & Kowloon) having facilities to check in, in the city.

KL Sentral in Kuala Lumpur has similar facilities, for Malaysia Airlines and Cathay Pacific. Apparently, few more airlines also allow city check-in there, as I learnt from reading article in this link:

City Check-in: Rush no more - Business Traveller Asia

Travel by train to KLIA with hand luggage was convenient.

The article, from 2011, gives info of other destinations that have city check-in. I guess there are now even more destinations.

The city check-in in KUL for Malaysia Airlines is very convenient. It would be great if this was extended to more cities/airlines.

I agree, it was really convenient to check out of the hotel and check our bags in and then spend the rest of the day wandering around KL without any hassles and for free.

It was very convenient when you could do this in London too - at Paddington Station for LHR (and I think also at Victoria for LGW).

And then 9/11 happened ............

Ahhh, they were the days when you could check your bags in the city, at any time, for Qantas, Ansett and TAA.

Mind you I would also write my own tickets then too.
