i'm silver with velocity, and have to say i love the discounted lounge membership. it made me think (nerd that i am!) about silver status benefits in general, and whether there's anything missing...

it's tricky, because of course there has to be differentiation between each level - but is there anything interesting you think va or qf could do to boost silver benefits?

The only real benefits I've noticed of silver over red are the priority check-in (which everyone except red Savers use), free checked baggage (I usually do HLO to save time) and maybe a lounge pass or 2. Nothing substantial.

I'm not sure what they add without taking away from the benefits of Gold (I don't think silvers or flexis should have access to priority check-in), maybe opening up seat selection (dom and intl) after they open it to Golds but before they open it to everyone else?

I think they have limited silver & flexi priority check in(split it from golds & plats), well Atleast at Sydney.

Unfortunately any addition to Silver in QF will have the SGs and WPs and more hopping mad if they don't get equal or more enhancements (using the correct definition of enhancements and not the contrived, marketing speak one... :))

this is a great idea - but silvers already get advance seat selection, don't we?

No seat selection infront of row 8.
Which is kinda stupid on flights such as OOL, BNK, CFS, CNS, etc..

I am contemplating flying a couple of extra flights to reach Silver this year, It would be my first airline status ever! (Yes, it doesn't count :) )

What is the discounted lounge membership you talk of?

Cheers

lol - i think it counts! it's my first status too ;)

Waived joining fee (usually $330) and $300 per annum rather than the usual $420.

the free baggage is handy if you're on a saver fare, too.

so maybe silver = save money on extras while you're on your way to gold?

Having been silver the last 4 months the priority checkin is great especially when turning up in Sydney to find the lines spread beyond the rope barriers. Then the free luggage which saved my partner and I $48 each time on a return trip.
Although these 2 may not seam like much they do save time and money.
