With the $88 MEL-xSYD-OOL flights I have become very tempted to book a couple of my future MEL-SYD returns using the longer itinerary as it ends up cheaper than booking just MEL-SYD. If I check in but don't fly the SYD-OOL or OOL-SYD flight on each booking would the SCs still post for the flown leg and on the OOL-xSYD-MEL would the SYD-MEL be canceled if I didn't board in OOL?

Book them as one way flights, I don't see the problem.

You will only get the SC's for the legs flown.

*That is for the leg to SYD, the return leg slipped my mind

For MEL-xSYD-OOL I suppose you could do it if you wish

However for the return you will not be able to board in SYD without doing the OOL flight

You should be ok, but you must notify Qantas (in the relevant timeframe) beforehand that you will be a no show.

This is how I understand it. For that fare bucket, failure to board in OOL is counted as a no show, which for that ticket, means it is forfeited.

Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

This is also how I understand it, however booking one-way flights should avoid this problem.

Yeah but the OP was wanting to go in both directions taking advantage of this special offer because it was cheaper than the MEL-SYD and SYD-MEL flight...

I guess your only going to get half the saving you thought you could wangle through this deal...
