A few photos of the newly renovated Suite on Level 9 which is due to be open today.
We were given a tour of the floor by a Hilton employee who was justifiably very proud of the new rooms 01501495933.jpg 01501495952.jpg 01501495968.jpg 01501495985.jpg 01501496000.jpg

The standard rooms have a 55" tv in them and the beds are lower. Many more power points and storage.

Bit hard to tell, but I'm not convinced that's an improvement in terms of the furniture. Desk looks smaller and that lounge looks rather uncomfortable.

About time. I gave up on it years ago which ended up taking my loyalty to Accor. But I do like Conrads

The rooms do look good. In the standard room the have moved the bed so it is facing across the room and not the window, with the TV on the other wall.

We didn't have too much time to have a good look, but the bathroom in the suite we saw looked like it had just been spruced up a bit with a new vanity and not a complete reno.

They hope to have all rooms completed by the end of January.

I agree with you Daver6, the stylists appear to have won on the type of lounge. Looks good, but there is no support at the back as it's too low.

Still if I had a booking soon I would definitely ask for a renovated room.

Probably old news but here are some pics from the refurbed centennial suite:

It's been nicely done. Though the couch is pretty uncomfortable and needs the cushions otherwise it's quite useless. Still not a very functional space but as a solo traveller not an issue.

No pic but the bathrooms have had minor upgrades too and are excellent.

Other than looking more modern, it looks so dysfunctional! And why only a single chair for that small table?

That suite was always pretty odd. Definitely not designed for any kind of entertaining or even comfortable conversation. But they've really wasted all the space that has been freed up by placing the flat screen TV into the wall and moving the fridge, mini-bar and coffee machine to the (previously wasted) spaces by the front door. You can walk comfortably through now but it's just empty space.
The work desk in the corner is also really uncomfortable and awkward. But you could bring that chair, and one similar that's in the bedroom, around the little table or couch I suppose.
One other downside to the renovation is the DVD player and radio has gone. No way to plug your device into the TV either.
Lots of universal powerpoints and USB chargers though. Handy if you are a dolt like me and forget your travel adaptor.

IMHO, the entire point of a suite is to have an area to just sit down and relax in the privacy of one's room. I've stayed in those suites previously and was fine for that with a nice couch. Now, its just pointless.

Perhaps there was a network connection to cast your device to the TV? Eg, Chomecast, Miracast or even DLNA?

Agree with you. It's not that comfortable. But I had thought it would be even worse, so in the end I wasn't disappointed. That said, I spent almost all my free time up in the lounge rather than my room.

If there was an option to connect to the TV it certainly wasn't obvious or explained. To be fair, I didn't look too hard.

I can see why people are critical of this. For a Conrad suite, it's very ordinary IMHO.
