Connection Time in Hong Kong

Hi,
I just booked a trip to Delhi leaving next Monday. On my way back I had to route from DEL to HKG then onto MEL on QF30. My flight from DEL to HKG arrives on the 4th Oct at 7.45am and QF30 is listed to depart at 9.00am. I am wondering:
1. Is the 1hr 15min connection is OK?
2. Would QF and CX operate in the same area reducing transit walks etc.
3. I hope my bags will get on the plane, anyoen done such a connection before.
4. I doubt I would have much time for a lounge vist, or would I assuming I arrive on time or early?
5. Is the lounge worth visiting. I am WP by the way?

Is the flights on the one PNR (ticket)? If so then you are protected $$$ wise if CX gets in late or you don't make the connection.

HKG is a large airport, it takes quite some time to get from one end of the airport to the other. I was on a CX flight (transferring to a QF flight) and we had to board a train to get us from the gate to the transit area. (Keep in mind that HKG keeps arriving and departing pax apart until arriving pax have gone through security again)

Assuming you'd be able to make the connection. I highly doubt you'd have time to visit a lounge.

Yes all booking done on line through QF on one PNR so covered. I am presumign I have no need to go through passport control as just in transit. I might have to research this further to see if i can squeeze soem lounge action in there or because first time in new airport might be worth a walk around? Thoughts out there???

I did exactly the same route a couple of months ago. I had enough time to get to the departures area, have a quick juice in the j lounge and sit down before boarding.

It took me 10 mins to get from the arrivals gate to the departure level. Incidently the flight landed at gate 18 and I departed from 16

It really depends on what gate you arrive at. If a low numbered gate then I think you will be fine to hit the lounge. I flew LHR-HKG-SYD and had time for Champers in the F lounge with a 50 min connection.

In that case your fine, QF will get you MEL at no cost to you even if you miss the connection.

That's correct. I was using that to illustrate the size of the airport, but I changed it was I realised it may have been confusing. There would be no need to go through passport control.

If it is one PNR, 1hr15 is more than adequate. I know CX have had 55 minute connections in the past, which I have done with plenty of time to spare.

I can't tell you about lounge access though.

Thanks for the information. Sounds great, I hope my flight arrives a bit early. Do they have a F lounge there that you are aware of? Sorry just saw another post, F lounge is available, looking forward it it, touch wood I arrive on time.

Just be conscious of one thing - although QF will get you home, if delayed you might struggle to get a flight that gets you home the same day. I know if I had missed my connecting flight then I would have been stuck at HKG for 13 hours until the night flight to SYD...

You have a number of F lounges to choose from - QF/CX - in this case given that I believe QF generally depart from gates lose to their lounge I would head to the QF lounge.

Hi, thanks for the tips. Yeah I know if I am late and miss QF30 I could be waiting but I had no other alternatives to get home. As long as I get back by Tuesday as on Wed I head to BKK (i coudl change that to Thurs if req'd). Some might say why come home, but when you have 4 kids, every bit of home time is valuable.

I used the Cathay Wing F lounge last week. HKG lounges are not well sign posted. This lounge is beside Gate 2, my flight QF 29 left from gate 24 an easy 5-7 min walk. The Wing was pleasant, in 1hr 30mins I had time in a cabana, and some dim sim in the restaurant

Thanks getting some useful feedback re lounges. I am wondering; it sounds like the CX F lounge is along same lines as QF F lounges in OZ and maybe better option that the QF lounge in HKG, do people agree? I have long legs and can walk fast so distance is not such a problem when having to get to boarding gate.

Interestingly when I asked for a cabana I was told there would be none available. I had to be quite insistent on joining the waiting list.

If I had a bit more time if would try the Wing again but the QF J lounge is perfectly adequate and I assume the QF F lounge is at least as good?

The lack of natural light doesn't bother me but I understand what you're saying.

This is what I ate in the Wing! Going off topic, I was at BKK recently and both the QF J & F lounges were standing room only yet the CX lounge nearby was empty. Admittedly they had no showers however they also had the pork buns and I spent a comfortable hour in there.

I must have gotten unlucky. The Dim Sum I managed to get there (at around 8am) was shocking. It was dry and gunky. I ended up leaving them on a plate and going outside to drink champagne.

I didn't see what all the fuss was about for the lounge really, although I didn't try the cabanas.

I did a pit stop via the QF J lounge as well, and it felt more dungeon like than the MEL J lounge. The HKG F Lounge isn't bad, but the food and beverage options are somewhat limited.

I generally head for one of the remote transfer points, rather than following the throng towards arrivals. They tend to be much less busy and I'd rather be walking than queueing.

Fair call, I've only done the connections with various CX and QF arrivals, and always at a low numbered gate so the closest transfer point is the one near arrivals. I dont fancy walking all the way out to a distant one and then back! Would probably end up taking the same amount of time!

Useful advice for the OP if the BOM flight comes in at a distant gate.
