Am travelling to Tokyo with a bunch of mates later in the year on QF. We have MEL-SYD arriving at 1955 and leaving SYD for Tokyo at 2130...in J
I assume this is enough time to comfortably make it barring some unusual catastrophe? I usually travel with kids and would leave some crazy long time in between...I've forgotten how to do it when not having to worry about them. I can't even remember how I got to the Intl terminal last time I went to Japan but I assume J passengers get taken in a bus or something?
thx

Personally I would have an earlier flight to allow more time for any possible delays as you have 1 1/2 hours, however if all goes well it's fine! Also as you are Qantas Platinum you have access to the Qantas First lounge in Sydney which is always worth more time than less, and at night it's simply amazing as it's quiet relaxing and a great view as Sydney lights up!

Make sure your checked bags are checked through all the way to Narita when you check-in in Melbourne and you get both boarding passes!

You will land at the domestic Syd terminal T3, and you will then walk towards the Qantas transfer bus Sydney Domestic Airport (T3) Guide | Qantas

Gate 15

Buses seem to run every 15-20 mins at best now so be prepared to wait a little. A generally rude agent will scan your pass here and you will go down to the bus and then be driven to the International terminal T1 with a great view :)

Then you go through the Immigration and security and you are set to head to the lounge for a quick visit!

Again I would personally be ringing Qantas and trying to move to an earlier flight and/or when you check-in, get there early and try to fly on an earlier flight!

Am assuming it's a legal connection and on the same PNR but for me it's too tight.

The slightest delay means you'll be worrying about your connection and your luggage.

Make sure you get the priority cards for departure when checking in, this will save quite a bit of time when going through immigration.

Once you get off your domestic flight go to gate 15 in SYD and there is a bus to take you to the international terminal. Straight off the bus and through immigration.

You could also rock up to MEL AP early and see if they will let you fly forward.

Oops...No longer Platinum....went from four figure SC to almost 0 in one year :( started saving the $$ and teleconferencing..hopefully not for good.

Enough points for an SC run but probably not quite worth the trouble atm.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that but you are probably right and we will move the flight one back. I don't know why we didn't do that? These are classic awards flights. I will call tomorrow.

No probs, it's just a little too risky for my liking, I'd like an extra hour in between those flights!

to get 5 seats we are moving half an hour back which is almost two hours total to change

When I got our 2 JASAs BNE-SYD-NRT I had us in SYD for 7 hours. The QF agent tried desperately to get us on a later flight but I kept politely refusing.
Lunch and dinner in the Flounge-why not?
