Hi all,

I am soon to depart to Malaysia with my family and whilst packing thought I would double check the baggage allowance. My e-ticket states that we are allowed 30K as Economy passengers but the Malaysia airlines website only states 20? I thought their baggage allowance was increasing with their upcoming membership to OneWorld?

To make matters more confusing, their boarding pass states that baggage allowances are as per the e-ticket.

I would appreciate your thoughts/experiences here as I don't want to end up with a hugh excess baggage fee.

Thanks very much in advance!

Hello! It is def 20kg and 7kg hand luggage. They are very strict so don't be over! Flying them next week myself and have flown them many times.
They are not part of one world yet so any status if may have hasnt come into effect yet.

The check-in luggage limit is 20kg but there are some destinations where the limit is 30kg (like flights to India, for example). Hand luggage limit is 7kg according to the site (for all classes) but when you check-in at the airport, the signs for business and first class state 10kg. It is indeed very confusing!

It is funny, hand luggage was only 5kgs for Y.

I remember before that higher Y fares had larger allowances but I think that may have changed

Just to add to this debate, be aware that Malaysian does offer 30 kg on some flights. I have my parents on a Malaysian flight from Australia to Europe (and return) and they have 30 kg allowance each. Worth checking directly with the airline. I agree that the website only speaks of 20 kg.

Yep they do offer 30kg on some economy tickets, it is a bit selective. I guess it is to counteract Emirates.

I also understand they give a 30kg for some student tickets that is some what of a special case.

New Baggage allowance reported in the news.
Will wait and check MAS web Site, but sounds good.
I cannot post the link here, but search on "Bernama - Malaysia Airlines Offers Higher Checked Baggage Allowances".

Okay so I'm allowed a max of 30kg in the hold but is it restricted to one suitcase or can I take two without extra charge? Also what is the max size of case allowed?
I would find it difficult to lift a 30kg case so would like to spread it in two cases (15kg in each). Is this allowed?

I managed to get hold of Mal A Office in UK and they confirmed I may take more than one check in bag so long as the two combined do not exceed 30kg. The size of the suitcase wasn't an issue but presumably it must not be too large to handle?
