Hi, I just received my first aus concurrent passport, valid for 3 yrs. Was forced to as I have 11 pages left but need 12 or 13 at min for africa and usa among others nxt yr. Embassy in Doha wouldn't renew my current, so was best option. Sidenote, if requesting concurrent passport os, the local consul decides, not canberra.

Anyway, how does this passport work..is it renewable? Or ill try to renew it and get denied?

I guess if you can demonstrate continued need for the concurrent passport after the 3 year expiry you'd be able to apply for another one.

As of a couple of years ago when I had one, I think concurrent passports are not renewable. They expire and if you still need a second one, you need to re-apply.

What do you mean by the local office wouldn't 'renew' your passport? Do you mean wouldn't issue you a new, replacement one?

I guess i was expecting to be given an information sheet saying this passport cannot be renwed, you must apply again if you need another concurrent passport.
Knowing Australia, they probably let you pay for a renewal and then deny it, keeping the fees.

Yes, actually its 9 pages, was 10 free, but id gone on another trip in the intervening period. She mentioned very vaguely about a rule that requires bascially no pages left to issue a replacement passport for your current. Mine is only 3 yrs old, but a few more trips and shell be full. She would not give me an exact number on the pages rule unfortunately.

What's the difference between re-applying and renewing anyway? The form's the same.

I think replacement or renew you get a reprint of current passport for half as much as a new passport.

Yeah bad expression by me. For concurrent, you have to justify why you need a second one against a list of one's they give. A second time they may look closer at the reason.

In theory they don't like giving them out.

The 'too many pages left in main passport' reason to refuse a new one sounds very sus to me. You'd think they would prefer to do a new one rather than having a concurrent second one out there.

What was the reason you gave for needing it, @fifo ?
