Just requalified for Platinum for another year and I thought I would get another chance to choose a difference complimentary hotel elite membership but was told that you only have 1 chance to opt in your entire life. The Call Centre even said that if you moved back to Red and qualified for Platinum again I would still be stuck with whatever I had chosen.

Made a mistake last year in selecting Priority Club instead of Hilton now it looks like I am stuck with PC. Has anyone had different experience?

If you drop you get a chance to pick again.

I thought that it was only available as a once off? ie. If you select Hhonors Diamond you get it for a year, and that's it. Even when you requalify, you don't get it for another year? Or has this changed?

That was my reading of it also, but would be quite happy to be wrong. :)

I was told that if you re-qualify VA Gold you get to maintain HH Gold however the HH Diamond status is only for 6 months according to the T/C on the Velocity site.

"4. Gold and Platinum members who enrol into a car hire program or hotel program as outlined in clause 3(a) and (b), will receive a minimum of 12 months complimentary enrolment in the program from the date of their enrolment in the program, excluding enrolment by Platinum members into the Hilton Diamond Elite Level which is 6 months complimentary membership (Complimentary Partner membership)."

That would be nice if it was true.

There is no way I will maintain HH Diamond or even HH Gold but would be nice to somehow have a soft landing in place from HH Diamond.

Wow good find. It`s a one off benefit. Is that the same with the car rental status?

So if you are unlikely to maintain HH Diamond you would be best off going HH Gold correct? I personally find the differences between both levels not all that great...

Not the HHonors diamond benefit can be extended to at least 12 months if a member has at least four qualifying stays within the first six months.

Just a reminder though that HHonors does not, as a rule, offer soft landings!
You drop to whatever you requalify for.

I understand that about the HH program.

I do not quite understand what is being mentioned in this thread. I was VA Platinum and status matched to HH Platinum. I have now dropped to VA Gold and expect to drop to HH nothing.

But if I now requalify VA Gold I can get HH Gold as well? That is how I understand the recent discussion in this thread. With my booked travel I may (re-)qualify VA Gold before March 2013. Does that give me a shot at HH Gold?

Otherwise I think I may have 10 nights by then which can get me HH Silver and may just make the 16 nights for HH Gold if I have until February 2013 to get them.

You get the option to pick all those little benefits again, so yes you can be HH Gold quite easily.

When did you register for HHonors diamond? If after March this year and you had four stays in the 6 months since then then you should be Diamond until end of March 2014. If you registered before then, your Diamond would last until end of March 2013, again with the 6 months caveat.

I see no evidence that the four stay requirement is being policed.

I have seen at least one post herein indicating a members Diamond status was revoked with no stays in the six months.

(I'll dig it up when better able).

Mid to late March is when we would have first possibly heard of it, into the thirteenth month of membership with HH I am still Diamond with zero stays FWIW.

Always better to work on the lowest common denominator - avoids nasty surprises.

Maybe not all accounts get reviewed -going by the many initial enrollment sagas it would not surprise me.

No need, that was me. I didn't drop all the way down though - only to Silver.

Back at Diamond again now anyway.

There was a few late March and they seem to be related to an error where the expiry date was 3/12, in other words normal requal assessment, rather than being related to the four stay caveat, but who knows???? The fact there has been none reported since would reinforce my thoughts that its not being policed, not that I would rely on that for stays after the 6 months if need be.
