I'm halfway through my Qantas year and I've requalified for Platinum so I'm thinking there's a good chance I'll get the partner Gold again. My question is this: my partner will reach Gold in his own right this year, does that mean I just get nothing instead?

Ahuh. About the same as when you don't have a partner (according to Qantas T&C's) that you can gift it to.

Various people get around the issue, but not strictly ok according to the T&C's.

People do report better experiences when WP+PG, rather than just vanilla platinum e.g. better seat allocation, upgrades etc., so that might be a good reason to achieve 2100 SC's even if the PG will be redundant.

Of course, these reports are just anecdotes, and can't be substantiated by fact. I've not noticed much difference, to be honest.

My wife travels with me so she is WP as well. Would be nice if I could give my mum or dad partner gold. QF should change it so that you can nominate one of your family, not just your partner.

Have read on FT that the partner needs to be the same address
Now how would QF know if your "partner" was in fact your mother or wife (with same - different surname) ?

In preparation for achieving PG a few months back I changed my address to the same as my Mother's. However, my concern is that because she's already a QFF (NB) when I put her details on the PG application form they will compare birthdates and notice somewhat of a discrepancy.

I'm sure I read a post at FT or here where a Qantas rep commented on the age of the 'partner' and insinuated a parent-child relationship. Must track down the thread.

Lots of women nowadays have "toy boys", didn't you know?;):p:?:

SWMBO was already Partner QP when I attained PG. They simply sent her a nice gold card.
T&Cs said:
'Partner' means a Member's spouse or domestic partner who resides at the same address as the Member;

It is up to Qantas to prove your nominated 'partner' is not your spouse or domestic partner. Aside from that, they're generally not about to upset someone who is earning 2100+ SC's per year.

Still, I'd be careful with this. It's a real case of YMMV.

Similarly - many people have partners that don't live at the same address...

Like anything - if you are comfortable with not complying with the "rules' then go for it.

Hi,

My situation was the same as Serfty's. When I reached PG mrs ejb (who was already QP Partner) her membership changed online straight away from Qantas Club Bronze to Gold.

I guess QF keep track of who joined as partners.

I think domestic partner is a chasm of a loophole that you could drive a truck through. The dictionary tells me that Domestic is of the home or family.

If your living with your mum, or anybody, and maintaining a household together but not living separately as flatmates, I reckon that's pretty clearly a domestic partnership. QED.

Either way I'm not going to break the rules. They upgraded husband last year so they have his info on record anyway. I was more just wondering if there's other rewards but obviously people who already have gold/plat partners or no partners just miss out. Oh well.
