Companion Gold question

Hi
Looking for some advise on gifting Companion Gold so any information would be appreciated

I will requalify for Platinum and also achieve another 500 SC just before my anniversary date, so I will be able to nominate someone for Companion Gold.
The person I will be nominating is already Gold but won't requalify

My anniversary is 8 March 2015 and their anniversary is 13 April 2015
Am I able to nominate them for Companion Gold whilst they are already Gold ? Then have the additional 12 months added onto their existing anniversary date. ?


Then I also read in the T&C of Companion Gold, (see below) that I have 12 months to nominate a companion gold up to 12 months after I become entitled to redeem Companion Gold, so does this mean if I achieve the 1300 SC by say 1st March 2015, that I have 12 months from that date to nominate someone ??

Seems strange as I thought I would have had to nominate someone before my Anniversary date of 8th March 2015 as my SC earn to requalify would then restart from 9th March and possibly my proof of qualifying to be able to redeem a Companion Gold for my partner being 'lost' in the system.

I don't want to ring up and nominate my partner after my anniversary date has passed only to be told that I missed the cut off.
Not sure if I'm mis-interupting the wording below or not ?

22.3 Companion Gold Membership and Companion Platinum Membership
Clause 22.3.4 A Platinum Member may nominate a Companion Gold Membership or a Companion Platinum Membership by calling the Membership Contact Centre at any time up until 12 months after the date the Platinum Member becomes entitled to redeem the Companion Gold Membership or Companion Platinum Membership.

The clause you highlight does seem to indicate that you have 12 months from the date you earn the entitlement to actually nominate someone.

Without first (or second) hand evidence, I would just ring VFF and ask.

You have 12 months from when you get to 1300 / 1800 SCs to nominate someone. Don't do what I did and assume that as long as you earn the required number of SCs, you'll be able to nominate someone before the end of the following status year - as I found out today, it doesn't work that way.

Best bet is to call - they can tell you fairly quickly whether you can nominate someone and what date you earned the benefit (and therefore when the benefit will no longer be available).

If it helps, i was given a date of 12 months into the future of when i had to nominate someone when i enquired after this.

At least I don't have to nominate someone before my anniversary review date. I'll do it after my nominee looses their current gold status (which is roughly 6 weeks after my anniversary date)

Another Companion Gold question, the terminology in the TnCs is not entirely clear on the SCs that I need to give a Gold to someone.

It says "500 SC above that required for requal (ie 800)" which infers that you get it when reaching 1300 SC.

Im in my first year of VFF WP so do I need to reach 1500 this year for a Gold to be released ? Or must I requal (for WP next year) first and then gain 500 more SC on top of that ?

Any advice appreciated.

I gifted last year and only had to get 500 sc more than my qualification level for that year (First year of WP) so when you reach 1500sc you should be able to gift Gold.

Reviving a thread from late last year where I asked about the levels required for awarding Companion Velocity status. After reading the AFF threads about this topic, there are hundreds of posts and after reading them all I am more confused than ever.

There seems to be an anomaly for the Companion award in your first WP year. Even the Velocity T&Cs read as if they were written for requals only - the possibility of earning companion status in your first year flying VA seems not to have occurred to Velocity - either they don't expect flyers to be loyal, or so many status matches have been handed out that they didn't actually expect anyone to qualify for WP on their own flying.

Anyway, I have clarified with the Plat line and it seems that I am not eligible. Had I used family pooling to transfer 500 SCs they would be Gold, but by retaining 500 SC in my account I can't award it as a Companion award. Go figure.

I have no doubt that as a result of Velocity's decision to screw me on this one I will reach QFF lifetime status much quicker, i just don't have the time to nit-pick with Velocity over their tricky T&Cs.... it's easier to just not fly VA and therefore not continue to bother them.

Interesting. So how many SC's did you earn in total this year? I would have thought if you'd obtained 1500 SC's that Companion Gold would have been achievable. If you have 1500 SC's, might be one that needs to be taken a bit further with Velocity - doesn't make any sense if you've achieved 1000 SC's for WP and then an additional 500 SC's on top that you're not able to gift Companion Gold. If Virgin/Velocity want to retain loyalty, common sense should prevail here - regardless of the T&C's.

I have done 3 nominations. In my experience the person gets 12 months from date of nomination. You have until the end of your "next" anniversary to nominate. Meaning if you get the 500 credits over 6 months into your year you have 18 months to nominate.

I was able to nominate in Juky last year, with anniversary date being August. I am waiting till feb for my friends gold to run out before nominating them.

I found the Requals only rule odd until I worked out that it may have been designed to stop a pair of travellers using Family Pooling and soft landings to have one of them on Plat and one on Gold continuously for 1000 SC/yr.

Anyway as long as you have completed your 8 VA sectors, the first time you reach Platinum any SCs you earn after 1000 will count toward your next Plat requal. You only 'waste' the SCs if you have earned 1000 SCs but not done enough sectors (in which case the best strategy is to family pool until you reach Platinum).
