Card Promotions Commonwealth Bank (Ultimate Awards Card) 100K award points – potentially fee free

Is there a minimum monthly income for this card? Anyone know what it is i cant seem to find the info. Dont want to apply of i will only be rejected from lack of income.
I love how easy and pain free amex is to get credit cards through are they the only ones?

Does paying via Bpay with the CC in Netbank count towards the $5,000 minimum spend for the bonus Qantas points? As the T&C at the bottom of the page doesn't mention Bpay being excluded as an eligible purchase, but in the CommBank Awards Program T&C, it does mention "Payments through the BPAY Electronic Payments Scheme' as not being an eligible purchase. Thanks

Bpay is generally a hard no for signup bonuses

How long did the bonus points take to land in your account.
I hit my $5000 spend in early January - spending was overseas transactions.
My Feb statement came out yesterday and still no bonus points.

I'm in the same boat, the regular points hit my account but the bonus points still havent come through.

Any experience with signing up for the qantas sign up bonus (70k), but then quickly changing for the velocity earn (1.5pt/$ spent Internationally). Keen for the card for some upcoming international transactions and international trips.

Afternoon Team,

I recently received this card. Turns out that I need to transfer some money overseas. If I use Western Union (which accepts Mastercard) is the transaction considered a cash advance, i.e. not eligible for the minimum spend requirement and subject to the cash advance fee? Many thanks!

The missus got this card a few months back. It took the full 90 days for the bonus to show up even though the spend was met within a couple weeks of receiving the card.

Commbank also posted the wrong bonus amount. We did an online complaint to which they responded admitting the error. The missing points were posted in the following statement.

Hey, thanks for the information. Saves me a call to commbank. Will just wait another month then.
How many bonus points did they originally give? How can they get it wrong.. someone there had 1 job..

They gave 40k Qantas points instead of 70k. I believe the Commbank award to QFF ratio is 2.5:1 which would equal 40k pts, so I assume something happened in the system where it didn't register the QFF opt-in. ($30 QFF opt-in fee was taken straight away).

I have recently applied for this ultimate card - as I wanted to have a cc in my own name (not hubby's name). We have been long standing customers of commbank with many loans / mortgages over the years and commsec as online broker (I have had an account with them for over 30 years). It took them many weeks to approve - today I called and they said so. Since I have no regular income (retired, not in paid employment - most income are from interest, dividends and rental income), I know it is (nearly) impossible to get a cc for a retiree.

However, I think the reasons for them to approve a cc for me were: I am an existing commbank client (not a new client), we have repaid all our mortgages (sold all the properties), I have had a large share portfolio in my name with commsec for years, we have a smsf share portfolio with commsec as online broker etc.

During the approval process they asked for verification of all income sources (and statements from brokers). My tax accountant said just sent them my recent tax return (prepared by the tax accountan) but they said they wanted the 'real' one from the ato via mygov. So, I had to log in and emailed it to them. They said interest income did not count (! - I said but we have a lot of cash in bank accounts, they said not count) - only dividends and rental income, which must have taken me over the line for minimum income requirement. Also, I think when they saw my tax return, hubby's income was there and it was big because of the cgt he had to pay for selling down our investment properties.

We were pondering about applying for an amex plat charge card (as I had one in the UK for over 8 years) but amex au would not approve one for me as I had no regular income from paid employment. So i gave up on amex.

Will wait and see how long before my ultimate card arrives, so I can start the spending 😃 to get the bonus points. But from what I read here, the bonus points take a long time to post 😫

I don't think you'd have such luck with being so tricky, but good luck.

Would love to know that too. Just looked at Western Union pricing for THB for example. It's AUD$1 for THB23.32 compared to XE market rate of AUD$1 for THB23.51, meaning a 0.81% markup while paying with credit card.

Do you still have your UK Amex Platinum?

If so, try a Global Transfer from the UK to Au.

Plenty of people here using it to get a U.S. Amex. It’s a lot of reading 😉. There’s not too much by way of income verification in the process.

No, I cancel my UK amex plat card after we moved back to Oz during the pandemic as I could not justify paying the annual fee and not being able to use any of the benefits. But before I cancelled the card I did try to ask for a global transfer from UK to AU without any success because amex au tried to enforce annual salary of $100k (in the UK, no income requirements by amex). I only have income from interest, divs and rental so they were not interested, even though we have cash and assets (no count). I still have a no fee amex uk card - BA affiliated, and have used it occasionally to get ba avios to keep my ba ff active.
I have not thought much about a US amex.

Oouch , that’s a bit harsh

Yes, I used to have the UK Platinum too. I also have changed to the BA card

Fair enough …. it’s a bit of a niche market 😉

Almost none of the above mattered, not anymore. what mattered is verifiable income.
All that other stuff mattered when you could sit down in front of the manager and asked for a credit card, and he had sign off approval to do so. (why i know this because that used to be me)

All banks assess credit cards in automated scoring systems, relationships no longer count for such a simple commodity as a credit card. You might even remember a time when you had to impress the bank manager to get a Cheque book, or an ATM card.
