I've never paid much attention to Hertz Reward points as I don't think I have ever had enough for a day's rental.

But after using Hertz in italy last year, I have enough for eight days rental at Standard Rewards, and three days at Anyday Rewards (twice as many points required as Standard Rewards, but can be used in blackout periods). Only problem is, the points lapse after 18 months if I haven't rented a car with cash or points - and I won't be hiring another car in Italy till two years have elapsed.

The only other time I could have used the points is next year on a trip to Port Douglas, but the points there can only be used at the Anyday Reward rate, which is a waste of points.

So I thought about it and have come up with a solution I think will work - namely, from sometime halfway through next year, I am going to hire a Hertz car locally for an hour for $45, which should keep my points alive till I get to Italy the year after.

Just curious if anyone can see any problem with this, or know of a better solution to maintaining the points for two years.
Regards,
Renato
