BA has recently started selling Club on its U.K. Flights. It's the usual converted economy seats with a "meal" provided. Y is now buy on board and fairly outrageous prices.
The first I heard of this was when my carefully selected and much loved 1A became something in double digits !!
Fixed that up with a paid upgrade at the airport. 01491718900.jpg 01491718939.jpg 01491718969.jpg 01491718997.jpg

Given that intra-European J is all "middle seat left free", there's no incentive for BA to do anything different. At least they put that console thing in place, which gives extra table space which is good.

Would it kill them to put some proper J seats in?

Not saying I disagree with your point but the reason why BA does Club Europe like it does is because it can adjust the number of rows to J as it likes.

On the old seats where they could wind the left hand sets in (and right hand seats out to make 2 5) on the A321 fleet Club Europe could in theory extend right back to the exit door forward if the wing. And on the A319's/320's back around 10 rows.

And they used to adjust the mix essentially dynamically. I recall once flying Y for pleasure and being in row 5 only to find my allocation gone and Y changed to start at 7 instead.

Provides flexibility but also provides by our standards here in Aus a poor product. Would be hard to do that with a proper fixed J seat.

UK Domestic Flights were just a disgrace. Even with an F-Ticket you sat in an Eco-Only cabin (with the risk of sitting next to Jabba the Hutt). So it is a real improvement.

Most Euro-C Product are those "middle seat free + moving curtain". On the other hand most flights of the Euro-C are much shorter than in Australia (1-2 hours). On those flights you just can endure the flight in Euro C.

So you may end up paying a few thousand Euros and sit in the same chair as the Eco passengers.

It can be a disgrace on longer flights - especially at night time (LH enhanced their flights form FRA to CAI to an Euro-C Camping-Chair product,...)

A very few airlines have real C seats for mid-haul flights (BA, IB, S7, TK,...).

Much as it doesn't seem like it, this is a real improvement on what BA was offering before.

Is it a Business fare code and earn Business class TPs/SCs?

It should earn BA J TP's and points. I completed a LHR-EDI-LHR last week but it was booked with Avios. I thought the new meals were a fraction better. The cold plate was a ploughman's lunch and was actually quite tasty.

It earns Y TP/SC

Unlike IB domestic J flights which earn 20, BA UK domestic J flights actually earn 40 TP which is nice. My bi-weekly commute is LGW-EDI-LGW and I always get row 1 or 2 assigned to me on HBO fares. Since CE has come in, I now get row 3 (although I did have a shockingly far walk back to 5 the other day ). The uptake on CE is very low on this route which didn't surprise me at all, given I could easily get row 1 or 2 on HBO (which "Business UK" customers would have easily been able to pre-select, one would have thought; or those with status on non-HBO fares).

Disclaimer: the earnings mentioned are in BA Executive Club.

As mine was an AUP it credited as Y. I think the same applies for BAEC.

AUP's will generally tend to post the correct cabin when crediting to BAEC (i.e. would post as J). The issue with QF may be due to the fare bucket AUP's book into.

Back in November, my (month or two before flight) paid £ upgrade rebooked into U. It credited to QFF as Business.

Well I jinxed myself, today is a larger than usual CE turn out so row 5 is actually the first row of whY.

OK now that boarding is complete it's even more odd. 4 rows of CE but not a single seat taken.

Today's update .. Club is 3 rows. I was allocated 3C on check in (HBO fare so no free seat selection), but boarding pass days Euro Traveller. Will be interesting to see if it's treated as CE in flight.

I was offered cash upgrades on my flights to EDI in June, but decided to give them a miss and chose exit row to be more certain of getting the seat I've chosen. On the way back from BCN later in the trip I scored J for not much more than Y, so shall try it out then. Really like their book a return and save a bundle on J deals! Difference between a one-way and booking the return was huge.

Just an update to this. A couple of recent POUGs credited as J to QFF.
There is some decent value on Club Europe on some routes. Just don’t expect much from the catering and you won’t be disappointed
