Special Takeoff Techinque

Don't try this at home . . . .or anywhere else.

Interesting (read scary) Takeoff

Thought the airport was a little familar . . . .then the accent confirmed it !

I wonder what performance charts were used for this T/O . . .or did he think Queanbeyan was the airport boundary?!

Was this CBR airport?

Anyone know the reason for the very late takeoff?

Well and truly loaded to "the gills" with stuff.

One assumes the pilot did his maths ...

JohnK,

I've seen it years ago at Amberley with the USAF KC135 tankers. They actually do the sums backwards and start with runway length and conditions and from that workout the maximum possible takeoff weight. It works fine but leaves no margin for any problems. I saw a KC135 one day that had a water/methanol injection failure on one engine and it made the performance in the video look absolutely fantastic. VERY scary actually :!:

How old would the IL76 video be ? Its a long time since I've seen Chinooks on the Defence side so presumably before the 600m runway extension ?

There is no displacement on the 35 RWY in the clip so it is before the RWY extension. The Impulse 1900 holding at Taxiway November should give you an idea of the year.

I'm glad your eyes can pick the aircraft on November as an Impulse Beechcraft:!: (Although pre-extension did November exist - or was it just the end of Bravo?)

Anyhow, an Impulse aircraft puts it pre-2004 and I'm guessing prior to the airbase decommissioning in 2003.

Certainly would have been "interesting" to have been driving along Pialligo Ave at the time.

Richard.

No it was still taxiway November, even back then, according to my old charts.

The giveaway with the 1900 is, it was the one with the Newcastle Knights players decal on the side.
