I've just joined the world of FIFO and will be flying to BKK via HKG every month for work (plus some flights within Asia).
I'm currently Green (almost Silver again), and wondered how the resetting of SCs affects climbing to Gold since the change?

With QF I just kept adding to my SCs and went from Bronze to WP in less than 12 months.
Does CX work in a similar fashion or is it more difficult to climb the CX Tier ladder?

Looking forward to getting back on board regularly - missed it these past few months greatly.

CX is the most difficult one world program to achieve status with, and also the most expensive - especially if buying ex-AU commercial fares.

However, with regular BKK patterns, if you can secure favorable pricing, personally, I'd be looking at other airlines.
But, since some of us are CX fanboys (myself somewhat included), you would want to be on the right fares to fast track your way towads status.

The April 2016 changes made status earning more transparent no doubt you're familiar with them already:)

I hear you TTR - CX serves me best for inter-Asia flights and the specials from BKK are too good to pass up.
Add to that I get basically door-to-door service to/from ADL, it suits me to stay with them.

I'll be choosing the flights to meet my needs (company will pick up the tab) Y only, but this time I was able to get Y+ seats, something I've *never* been able to get on QF, so I'm happy.

Will see how it goes - I'll be happy to just make Silver: lounge access will make me extremely happy (again)!!

See if your company will consider BKK-ADL-BKK tickets which are likely to be considerably less expensive (and might permit y+ on a regular basis)

Happy wandering

I've just made it to gold with CX in the past few weeks and boy was that hard. Lots of BIS. Rather expensive. But it's a pretty good program benefit wise, particularly with the mid-tier upgrades and lounge passes (for others).

The biggest hurdle is moving up is fact that your CPs are cleared at every change. So end of your membership year? CPs cleared. You make it up a tier? CPs cleared. So from green to diamond it's actually 2100 CPs, and then essentially 1200 CPs to renew each year. Definitely not easy.

That said, I'm fully self-funded and through lots of creative ex-CMB fares and a bit of MH and QR J sales, it's been very doable.

Have fun! It's nice to have other CX MPC flyers/fanboys around here as we're not a large group (on AFF anyway)...

Congratulations. With PEY now earning very little in the way for CX status, and no soft landing I will have enjoyed my time with CX but can only foresee Silver at best in the future.

Luckily SL is pretty valuable if you can keep a lot of your Y flying with CX. Lounge access, business boarding/check-in, priority baggage etc.

CX silver is a really great status to have, received many op ups as a silver, more so than when I was gold! Gold was great when there was the v class guarantee but alas that is no longer. Despite being gold for a couple of years, the new program does impact me significantly. So I'm happy to downgrade to silver. A bit odd is that I could obtain BA gold with my current flying but struggle to reach CX gold. Anyway, trying the whole CMB thing to keep flying CX as much as possible in J ;-)

The CMB fares are great (for CX anyway... still extortionate compared to the likes of MH and QR) but I wish I could get those kind of fares out of somewhere a little nicer... like BKK.

It's worth it, and I'll keep doing it, but I am growing so resentful of the truly awful CMB airport and the horrendous flight timings, sometimes requiring a full day in CMB if using more than one carrier and not doing a straight turnaround back to HKG on the same aircraft.
