Claims of drink spiking on plane

I can understand the motive, however nefarious, for spiking someone's drink at a nightclub. I cannot, however, understand the motive for spiking anyone's drink on an aircraft, which is presumably full of passengers, and surely presents little opportunity for unwitnessed shenanigans?

I also think it's a bit rich slinging mud at the 'soldiers' on the flight without any evidence that she was drugged, or that; in the event she actually had a substance put into her drink; it was one of the soldiers who was responsible.

This story brings to mind an anecdote about an acquaintance who peed his pants after drinking 14 schooners in a session, and was so embarrassed by publicly humiliating himself that he concocted a cough-and-bull story that involved a fleeting memory of a strange girl slipping a red tablet into his drink... Yeah, right...

Not to mention they don't have you name and passport number when you go to a nightclub unlike a plane. Hardly difficult to find out who was on the plane.

Even if the story was true, It would be a federal police (federal police due to location of incident) matter and not something Jetstar would be responsible for investigateing would it ?

The question is why would anybody ! and what idiot takes those kind of drugs to Thailand !!! i believe you will find if your caught with these sort of drugs they take a very dim view of it in Thailand. (as elesewhere, but especially there)

The vast majority of claims of drink spiking turn out to be untrue. Almost always it is food poisoning, medication related or something else.

For this reason alone, I doubt this story.

Reminds me of a recent trip I did SYD-LAX in J. Asked for a scotch on the rocks, expecting maybe 30, 45mL.. The FA came back with a glass (the ones they usually serve spirits in - quite large), full to the brim with scotch, and 3 icecubes floating around.

Figured she must have thought I wanted a scotch and dry, so I took a sip. Nope - straight scotch!

Nursed that thing through two movies and still didn't finish it all. :D

Mind you...I wasn't complaining. :)

Actually had another FA later in the flight insisting I have a second glass of wine. Wouldn't take no for an answer. Even gave me a strange look and said "Sir, you realise you don't have to drive anywhere for the next 8 hours, right?" :D

Why is it I never meet FA's like that?

I was doing a QF whY trip and asked for a G+T and got nothing, a little later i was down at the bathroom, just walking around and the FA came down to be with 2 glasses in hand and said sorry i forgot you, i thought you may like 2 :)

I must have been served by the same FAs when I did JFK-SYD recently - was a v enjoyable flight and I reckon I'd have been totally off my face if I could drink. :D

Very true indeed. Many of the patients that I have examined who claim to have been 'spiked' their toxicology screen comes back negative for everything other than ethanol (alcohol). My common question now is 'of the drinks you had tonight which one do you think was spiked'? Recent studies have shown that those patients who have 'actualy' been spiked are usualy the subject to some form of assault.

With this passenger, if she was so concerend about the situation she should of sought some form of medical assiatance that could support her complaint/assucation.

Exactly. What would be the point of spiking the water-bottle in question if the result was merely to sit next to her on a crowded flight and watch her sleep? Wow - that was totally worth wasting a dose of G for, wasn't it...

I find it hard to believe her story. What would anyone have to gain by drink spiking on an aeroplane?

Could have been food poisoning....

Is that due to age/religion/other/no comment?

Got me thinking though. On QF107/8 LAX-JFK. What is the legal drinking age? 18 (Aus?) or 21 (USA?)

I would assume that as its in US airspace its under their jurisdiction and therefore its 21.

I have a mate (who was 19 at the time) who flew from JFK to SYD and he had to wait until they were out of US airspace before he was allowed to have a drink.

Fair enough, and i assume they are being that strict since they have been in trouble before ! Not that i really ever had any issues when i was under 21 in the USA, when not a local they seem to be a lot more relaxed if your 18+ even though the law is 21+, then again that was some 10 years ago now....

Maybe it was one of the crew trying to get people to sleep to reduce their work load ;)

I was on medication.

I've never been IDed on planes, even when I was actually underaged.

I found it hard enough to get more than a few drinks out of Jet Star.... and the food was bad enough to kill an elephant!
