Circle Pacific or Asia fare

Evening all,

Newbie just after a bit of feedback regarding a fare type for the following itinery:

Melbourne - Brisbane - Bangkok - Tokyo - Honolulu - Melbourne, flying out of MEL just before Xmas and returning from HNL on Jan 20. Class will be the cheapest and I'm not to concerned about points etc.

I'm thinking of a OW circle pacific or the *A equivalent, but not sure if BKK would be "Pacific" or if HNL would be "Asia", or whether the MEL - BNE is ok? Is there much of a difference between Circle Pacific and Asia fares or the *A equivalents? WRT ticket stock, which airline is likely to be the best (cheapest) for taxes/fines?

I'll be pestering a TA in the next few days but wanted to have a bit of knowledge beforehand.....

Welcome to AFF HappyDude. CHeck out this thread which has a little bit of info on similar fares. You might be able to get one of the more discounted fares around asia.

The challenge will be availability. DO you have access to www.expertflyer.com?

Not sure what loadings are like, but you may struggle for availability so close to Christmas. Cannot use an Asia fare as HNL is part of North America.

The one world circle pacific fare would be difficult as you would have to fly NRT- US mainland (eg LAX) - HNL, as there are no flights as yet on one world metal from Japan to Honolulu (not until JAL joins program next year).

Star Alliance Circle Pac, starting in BNE may be best option, you'll just have to pay to get from MEL-BNE on a separate fare.

BNE-BKK: on TG direct or SQ via SIN
BKK-NRT: take your choice, TG, NH, UA or SQ all fly direct
NRT-HNL: UA direct service
HNL-MEL: via SYD on AC/UA or via AKL on NZ.

I'd imagine UA ticket would have lowest taxes, but that's just a hunch not based on any logic.

I've been out of touch the past week or so, but note that UA has extremely high taxes on transpac flights.

But not as high as QF or NZ.

As a matter of interest, I've just booked a SIN-LAX-SIN trip in C class and the "taxes" amounted to USD 32. Doesn't sound too "extremely high" to me.

Hmmm - the figure I have for UA fuel surcharge is USD105 each way!! Yes, even more than QF & NZ.

Was your ticket an award by any chance? USD32 sounds more like real taxes with zero fuel surcharge for a SIN-LAX-SIN.

Total taxes & fees US$246.60 for SIN-NRT-LAX-NRT-SIN.

Why are you pricing through NRT? SQ has SIN-LAX nonstop. UA & SQ do have flights via NRT but if ticketed as one coupon each way the NRT taxes are not applicable (as well as only 1 fuel surcharge each instead of 2).

The UA website does not have direct flights SIN-LAX. If the UA fuel surcharge is US$105 each way then total taxes & fees of US$246.60 sounds right.
