Mr Driver and I have been lucky enough to be 'guested' into Qantas Club on our upcoming trip to the US. Here's the question - do we use it on the way or on the way home. Here' are our flights:

BRIS/SYD/SFO arrive Syd 10.45/Dep Syd 1.55

LAX/BRIS LAX checkout is 8pm Flight leaves LAX 11.20pm

Seems to be approximately 2 hours in lounge either way.

I'd appreciate opinions on which Qantas Club Lounge you would choose.

If it were me - I would use it in LAX - the terminal area at SYD or BNE is fine but TBit sucks outside the club. You will get to use the new(ish) lounge in TBit which IMO is better than the AC in T4 that the Syd flights depart from ;).

Except that won't the answer depend on where the guester is capable of doing the guesting!

Thanks for clarifying, Mwenezi. I hadn't realised the difference but of course there is one.

Hi

I flew the same SYD- SFO flight myself recently and spent some time researching its ontime stats. Needless to say its usually 1-2 hours late departing - this might sway your decision. However, by the time you get the bus from Domestic to International terminal there will be little time to spend in the lounge anyway.

I'd use the lounge at LAX on your return home basically because of 1) the return flight departs late at night and it is likely you have been travelling all day (& possibly wearing the same clothes since morning) and it would be nice to take a quick shower / freshen up in the lounge before your long flight home.

I would say QP in LAX or SYD are much the same. Others may differ in their opinion ;)

Spoke to Mr Driver last night and we are at this stage inclined to agree with you all - we will be so excited going over that the airport won't matter but coming home we will be tired, it will be late, and we will have more time to enjoy the gift!

Spot on. On the way out, you will be fresh, and Sydney International isn't a bad place to spend a bit of time anyway. On the way back, LAX T4 in the evening is uncomfortable, with irritating loudspeaker messages and the few scattered power points keenly sought after.

Go for LAX. Have a shower, use the free internet, snack on, drink up.

In fact, spending two evenings in LAX T4 in early 2005 is what induced me to join QC in the first place.

You can always hope that some kind soul gives you another two passes. ;)

Sorry but I don't have any. :(

Well now, that never even occurred to me Bill! I will think myself very fortunate to have been given any passes and not be greedy! Cheers :p

Driver,

Always remember that 'Nice things happen to nice people'

I'll let you decide where you fit in :!: :D ;)

Well sir, I think Scarlet would say 'Modesty prevents me from saying!':oops:

Is there a place at Los Angeles airport where Qantas Club members can get a shower? I've been in LA a few times and have not found one yet.

Yes, at TBIT QP there is a desk at the back (go through to where the bar is and turn right, you should see it), go there and ask to take a shower, they will give you towels and direct you around to the showers...

Given that the lounges in LAX are joint lounges, are we sure the Qantas passes can be used?

My Dad's never had problems using the passes at LAX, infact that's where he saves them for...

When discussing lounge access and lounge facilities at LAX, its important to identify the terminal involved. The terminal 4 lounge is a joing AA/QF lounge, while the TBIT lounge is a OneWorld lounge. Access and facilities differ, and unless you are arriving at T4 and transferring to TBIT, you don't get to choose which one is available to you.
